July 26, 2005 I always thought that Real Estate Agents/Brokers were people who were highly respected. Especially since they are in the profession of selling/leasing homes/apartments that we all need. I mean at some point after you leave your parents nest, you will have to come into contact with one of these individuals if you decide to buy a house or get an apartment of your own. Then while perusing some information on netscape.com earlier, I came across a piece about Real Estate Brokers/Agents being the least respected professionals out there. A Harris Poll was able to determine that when more than one thousand randomly chosen adults that rate Americans’ perception of the most and least prestigious professions did a survey. The professions that are rated the highest are the ones closely related to the direct needs of society such as those involved in the fields of science, medicine, teaching, fire fighting, police officers, Priest/Minister/Clergy, members of congress, engineers and architects. Coming in last on the list as far as prestige goes was, the Real Estate Broker/Agent at a meager five percent. And this is for all you journalists out there. As far as prestige goes, those individuals involved in conveying bits of newsworthy information to the public, came in a bit higher at fifteen percent. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
