July 26, 2005 Is this the major break in the Natalee Holloway case the authorities have been waiting for? Maybe... Many of you remember my article on July 16, when I wrote about, the "Someone in the Shadows" who had to have seen something the night Natalee Holloway disappeared. Amid rumors that the blonde hairs on the duct tape are NOT Natalee Holloway's comes a report about, "Someone," a gardener who says he saw the three boys in a car blocking his way on a road between 2:30-3:00 a.m. right after Natalee went missing. This witness said he saw Joran Van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers together AFTER they all claimed they dropped Natalee and Joran off at the Marriott beach. Hmm..... Is there a re-arrest in the works here? Are the Kalpoe brothers heading back to jail? There is another report that Natalee was seen leaving Carlos and Charlies with Deepak, not Joran. Supposedly, she was waiting out in front of the club and the elder Kalpoe brother took her by the arm and she (apparently according to the report) wobbled off with him down a side alley. That...would imply a drugged Natalee, not a voluntary Natalee. Only her friends who saw her leave the club that night can verify that report. And, they have been giving conflicting reports which fit the modus operandi of this case perfectly, of course. The other report of note is there is a rumor that after Joran left Natalee on the beach, Deepak Kalpoe went back and raped her. The problem with THIS information is the source of it....Joran Van der Sloot. We have a, "He said, He said," here. Getting nowhere fast on that rumor...the only thing significant about it is that it implicates Deepak Kalpoe, instead of Joran, which no one had really talked about before. The new reward has been quintupled from the old one. It is now at a cool MILLION dollars. I think we are getting into some serious money now. If there are more witnesses out there, the bravery of the gardener and the extra financial incentive would definitely entice them. That is, IF the gardener is telling the truth which we all hope he is. Here is the hope. If the gardener shatters the alibi of all three boys then maybe they turn on each other and the truth is brutally told and there will be a resolution to this case. The Kalpoe brothers do NOT want to go back to jail and they might provide some information with their backs to the wall they had not shared previously to the appearance of this new witness. The attorneys for both Deepak Kalpoe and Joran Van der Sloot are not happy about the AMOUNT of information the Aruban authorities are about to share with the FBI. They are seeking legal action to limit it. What does that tell you? They want as much of the evidence to stay in the hands of the Aruban police department. If this wasn't so pathetic, it would be laughable. It is as if they are saying, "Whatever you do, DON'T let anyone professional handle this or our clients may be in trouble!" This is what many of us believed all along, that the FBI should have been the ones handling it from the first night. I do understand the impossibility of that with Dutch law forbidding it, but it is better late than never. For those of you who read my article, "Are you Sick of Natalee Holloway being in the News?" and were upset with me for "putting down" Beth Twitty...don't be. I was supporting her, not criticizing her. Go back and read it again. I think she is using the media like a genius. I am in awe of how she has kept this story and hope for her daughter alive. As a father of a college-age girl myself, I would do the exact same thing. Tonight, Greta interviewed the parents of a young woman who disappeared in Jamaica five years ago. They did not know how to do what Beth Twitty is doing and they got six minutes of air time. That's it. I felt so bad for them. Their daughter is just as important as Natalee Holloway. But, in this day and age, you have to know how to make the press work FOR you and not against you. That is why I respect Beth Twitty so much. There is optimism in the investigation among Aruban officials tonight. They are quietly confident they will solve the case by the end of the week. I have heard that before. I hope their evidence overrides my skepticism and we can all find out what happened on the late night of May 29, 2005. For Natalee's memory and for Beth Twitty's sanity, I pray to God we will....
