Warning Labels On Soft Drinks?

By Robert Paul Reyes
July 14, 2005

I gulp two, three, sometimes four cans of soda pop almost every day, I realize this is not the healthiest thing in the world to do, but gosh darn it, this is America and I should be able to enjoy a Coke without anybody nagging me.

I'm not obese, far from it, I'm in excellent shape because I jog, walk my dog and lift weights every day. As a free and thinking individual I take the calculated risk of indulging in my love for Cokes, but I compensate by working out religiously. The Center for Science in the Public Interest petitioned the Food and Drug Administration to require warnings on soft drinks to alert consumers about over-indulging.

This is patently ridiculous, where will this Big Brother mindset end? Will a cup of Slurpee be required to carry a warning that it might cause "brain freeze"?

Almost every product carries a warning of some type, the end result being, that these advisories are ignored.

The good people at the Center for Science in the Public Interest should chill out, drink some Cokes, and stop interfering with the small pleasures that we indulge in. With the world going to hell in a handbasket, those small pleasures are all that we have left.
