July 7, 2005 Not being one who enjoys protracted discussion, I am offering this morsel of arguable information. If terrorists are bombing London, Spain, and, of course, America, what are we doing in Iraq? Get out of there you guys. Go fight some terrorists. Wait! Is a terrorist the same thing as an insurgent? My dictionary tells me they are two different birds, both having feathers, but different wings. An insurgent is one who rises up against a political or military movement. A terrorist is a thug who wants to scare the hell out of people and, by the way, they’re doing a good job. We, a thin alliance of nations, are fighting on two fronts, terrorists, (who really don’t have a front) and the insurgents who create a different front almost daily. Obviously, insurgents in Iraq are dead set against the democratization of Iraq. The terrorists in this world are dead set against civilization and the art of reason. In my mind reason cannot be used with either group. We had the head of terrorism cornered in the mountains of Pakistan and let him get away. My guess, for what it’s worth, he is still there swimming in a piano-shaped Artesian well. His buddy, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, is probably acting as his lifeguard and enjoying a cactus juice with vodka. They give orders from their little Oasis and bombs go off in all parts of the world, U.K., Spain, U.S., and who is next? Hang on to your hats out there, because terrorists are “thugs” who claim a purpose, any purpose, no matter how ridiculous. They are unreasonable, very intelligent, and serpentine. They hate anyone that doesn’t believe in their beliefs and anyone that dares to disagree with their tactics. That being said, why do we continue to believe that insurgents are terrorists? Because they use the same tactics, necessarily does not indicate they are terrorists, by definition. They are simply using tactics that are working for terrorists, copycats perhaps. Go back to Afghanistan my friends in “great big places” and finish the job before these terrorist madmen decide to blow up our television networks. How could we survive without the latest breaking news on Paris Hilton and Tom Cruise?
Insurgents are contained within the borders of Iraq, maybe Syria, and Iran. Terrorists are not contained. They crouch behind every bush and rock that’s available to them. Take away rocks. Take away the bushes (not those Bushes…silly). If Winston Churchill were still alive today, he would urge a fight to the end on the borders between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
