July 7, 2005 When I first played this game back in the early nineties, on the original NES and was still new to the video game world, I was certain that I would not make it through first palace. In fact, while I was playing it back then, a friend who witnessed all the trouble I was having reaching from one point to another, in trying to figure out where I could find key items in the game, stopped me during gameplay and asked, why did you get such a difficult game? Now having given the gameboy advance version of it a chance and beating it, I must say that it is indeed an entertaining game. After you have acquired a sufficient amount of experience points to conquer the enemies that are trying to thwart your attempt at rescuing Princess Zelda from her plight that is. Then after hoofing it from one place to the next, encountering above mentioned enemies along the way, you do notice certain things. Like conquering one palace is only one aspect of the problem. For after you have defeated the palace’s villain, there is an item that is hidden in each of the palaces that you need in order to complete your quest. Sometimes if you search hard enough, you can find the item before you encounter the palace’s boss. An item such as the candle you find in the first palace. It’s an item that certainly comes in handy for making your way through those dark caves but there are also other things you can acquire outside of caves and palaces such as magic spells. These are awarded to our young hero, Link, by town elders, after he has, with your help of course, achieved certain goals, such as finding magic containers and so on And these spells are quite useful, especially the jump spell which you will have used often as the game progresses. While the game is still the same as the original NES version, graphics included, I think it is worth a second try if you became frustrated with it the first time around and placed it in the ‘games to not be played again pile’ and although the ending may not be all that long, think about all the fun and personal enjoyment you could have everytime you found something in the game or solved a puzzle that seemed so difficult the first time around. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
