July 4, 2005 Lately, a few male friends and relatives have been complaining about one thing. What is it you say? Their local sports bar is not what it used to be. A place that once reeked solely of men and their rants about all things worldly are now being shared by women. And while most heterosexual males may not mind being in an environment in which there are women, some complain that because of the presence of some of these women, in these sports bars, they cannot be who they are. You know, they have to worry about being politically correct all the time and keep their obscenities to a minimum in case one of those women decides to give them a look that may make the guy utter an apology. And if his team is not doing too well, well he might say a thing or two that the female patron seated next to him at the bar might not react too kindly to. So, feeling that he can’t be a man in what was once a man’s bar, the guy who is irked by this, gets up and leaves the bar and goes somewhere else where he is once again met with more or less the same mixed crowd of men and women he left at the previous bar. Of course there is one thing he can do if he doesn’t want to be in a sports bar with a mixed crowd of men and women. And it’s something that some men have been doing for quite some time, invite a few of his male friends over to his place and voila! You can raise your voice, say what you want and not worry about being politically correct, at least for the few hours your male friends are there with you. Or at least until your girl friend, wife or mate retuns home from her night out with the girls. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
