Adultery: Alive And Well In King Of The Hill

By Judy Ramsook

Sometimes some of us viewers look at a few cartoons for humour, even if it happens to come in the form of one of the characters on the show who uses a twelve year headache as a reason for her lover to ‘treat her’ for the ailment in FOX’s King Of The Hill.

Such as the case of Peggy Hill’s neighbour, Nancy and her lover, John Redcorn, an American Indian guy who has a special way of treating Nancy for her ‘headaches.’ And for the longest while upon watching the cartoon, I wondered how come none of the other characters in the show noticed what has been transpiring under their very noses.

But on looking at a rerun episode some time ago, there was focus on it. Hank Hill, not aware that his wife, Peggy, did not know about the affair, informs her of what the other neighbours already know about the affair between Nancy and John Redcorn.

Peggy Hill, being the naïve, trusting person that she is was appalled at first, then things started to fall in place when she stopped and took notice. Like she noticed Nancy’s son does not look like his father and also how frequently Mr. Redcorn visits Nancy to treat her ‘headaches.’

Then when things become a bit unbearable, Peggy Hill wants to set things right by informing the one person who does not know what is taking place, Nancy’s husband, Dale. But soon realises that is not an easy task, so for the sake of Nancy’s son, Peggy Hill does not tell Dale about the affair.

And they return to their lives, and live with the knowledge, just like Hank Hill and the rest of the neighbours do.
