Jan. 31, 2005 Has anyone ever noticed how conversations change as far as quantity goes if someone familiar to you were to suddenly move from where they were, closer to you, to a much farther one, as in another country? Now if you write each other long e letters everyday, then that is one exception, but if you do not then one of two things can occur. You might miss that individual's presence more or you will just learn to live without their input into your everyday activities. For no matter what long distance telephone plan you might have, all those lengthy conversations do add up after a while, unless of course you have some set rate for domestic calls, but those out of country calls, can really make a dent in your cheque book come bill paying time. You might even wonder about the low charges on your bill when that person with whom you are now communicating long distance was before he/she moved. But since you want to keep in touch with that person, sooner or later you or he/she makes the call, but lately I have realised something that may work and just costs a monthly internet connection fee; instant messaging. And if you want to hear that person's voice, there is audio with some programs that come equipped with headsets, especially if you do not live alone and want to keep your conversation just between you and the other person private. But even though the internet is providing that type of convenience, I still prefer the telephone, for not everyone wants to be confined to a headset, computer and chair while conversing with that faraway loved one. What if, for example, the person with whom you are communicating has a slower typing speed than say yours. For the slightly impatient, that might be a problem, because you have to wait for their response before you can send yours, especially if you asked that person a question or two. As for the high long distance telephone bill? I guess it is something some of us just have to contend with. For there is no typing involved, just your lips relaying the thoughts from your mind to that person just like you would if he/she were right beside you. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
