Jan. 30, 2005 When I was growing up, I usually consumed the foods that were placed before me, for it was a different time then. We were not allowed to be insolent to our elders and we also could not eat whatever we 'wanted,' instead we had to contend with what was given to us. With all respect, if some of we kids were given a chance, we would probably not have eaten nutritious items. And among these things that I consumed an abundance of, were curry dishes. Then while listening to the national evening news the other day, I was stunned to have learned that consuming curry dishes may actually prevent one from acquiring Alzheimer's disease. According to UCLA researchers and the Department Of Veterans Affairs, the yellow pigment, 'curcumin' shattered already existing beta amyloid on rats' brains, thus preventing the accumulation of the damaging plaque that causes Alzheimer's disease. Furthermore, and according to the same study, the yellow pigment, 'curcumin' is even more effective in stopping the protein pieces from forming to treat the disease than many other drugs being tested. And according to statistics, this disease affects four million Americans and millions more on a global scale. 'Gregory Cole,' leader of the UCLA investigative team further stated that 'curcumin' has been used for many years in India to treat a variety of anti-inflammatory disorders. So if you feel a yearning for some international cuisine, why not give a curry dish a sample. It's delicious and also good for you.
