Jan. 30, 2005 I do believe the most democratic element in the Middle East, besides Israel and the most pro American are the Kurdish people [or Kurds]. Their Prime Minister and his followers [Nichervan Barzani] seem to want to try, possible could, secure their own province, if allowed, or given the chance. Whereas, the Turks and the Iraqi’s and a horde of other Islamic chieftains, fear they may find tranquility in doing so, and that would just not do [destabilize the monarch tree]. I’d give them Kirkuk Province and we’d have a grateful ally, instead of a complaining, greedy, snobby, bickering neighbor [s] like Turkey and Iran, and Jordan and Iraq itself; all sucking American dollars as fast as they can figure out how to swindle them [Turkey being the worse]. These folks are so divided [Iraqi’s] amongst themselves, they can’t rule a damn sewer system without blaming everyone under the sun for its malfunctions. I can’t imagine what they’d do under the Saddam regime, surely not complain; from what I see, the insurgents kill Americans, then go to jail, complain they do not get the Hilton treatment, call up the Human Rights folks, and get air-conditioning; and the Human Rights folks, could careless about the head being chopped off by the Islamic rebels. It seems to me the Kurds are more in-tuned to bring about democracy and willing to fight for it, whereas, the Iraqi’s, like in Vietnam, shift with the wind. I think Saddam took all the spirit out of them leaving a hollowness filled with hypocrisy; thus, it will have to be the generation under them to do any real good for the country. We should focus on the Kurdish province and secure that where less hypocrisy resides in the minds of the people; and a national pride prevails. Mind you, I think taking Saddam out of power was a needed quest, but to hand feed the people at the expense of our Social Security, our Medical Programs, schools, etc., and everything else under the sun, should not be the goal of America. Blair seems to think after the elections we can move out. And I get the sense Bush would like to down scale if possible. And that might be a good idea. Will the insurgents move in, yes, just like in Vietnam. But they do not have far to move, they are there all ready. The only way to secure the area is to take over the whole area. The question arises, are they any longer a threat, no, I don’t think so. Can we go back in there if they become a threat? Yes. So what’s the problem; unless we plan on hitting Iran or Syria, than I’d suggest we stay where we are, until we conquer them and their nuclear ideals and then go home? ------------ About the author: Mr. Siluk is a world traveler, a lover of the mysteries around the world, and has visit many World Heritage Sites, his most recent being Easter Island, the Galapagos and Mesa Verde.
