Jan. 28, 2005 I have written this before, but it does bear repeating. In the life of any true Christian, the words of atheists have absolutely no value. The words of atheists do not add to true faith, nor do they subtract from true faith; therefore, the words of atheists can be ignored completely. If you try to put worth on the diatribes of the faithless, what you are attempting is an effort at giving selfishness value. Selfishness does not deserve to be compensated in any form. It is the height of selfishness to give your own words credibility above those already spoken and proven by an Almighty God. Selfishness demands that my voice is the only voice you should pay any attention to. The countless scholars who have poured out their entire lives in the study of God have wasted existence that could have better served mankind, where? Perhaps in a barber shop, or the Army, or is some scientific lab studying how men were produced from frog larvae. Selfishness says that this is the only life you have; then you go into a hole and that is that. What is the sense of honor then? Who cares? So what the martyrs burned and were tortured not for the sake of selfishness; but for that of selflessness. Selfishness attributes only scorn that someone would lay down their life to promote life. Eat, drink, and just do it, for tomorrow, we die. Selfishness is the breeding ground for jealousy, stress and anger. Selfishness says it is entitled to all the best things in life and becomes angry when it sees another in front of the line. Selfishness will stress and fuss and whine and groan about inequality, injustice and unfairness, but never unless it is perceived as injustice against itself. True faith is quite the opposite. True faith is content in its station. It does not envy the more intelligent. It does not stress or concern itself with those endowed materially of financially. True faith understands that there is a God and that he is the one in full control of every aspect of a selfless existence. The selfishness of atheism does not recognize the attribute of sovereignty. It is the atheist who is the sovereign of his own existence. There are good sovereigns and bad sovereigns. In atheism, there are too many bad sovereigns, so selfishness is the more prevalent result. The selflessness of true faith has turned over sovereignty to its rightful owner. God is the only fully good and absolutely trustworthy sovereign. So to my dear brothers and sisters in Christ I say: Ignore the ignorance of the atheist. Pray for them and help them where you can, for that is the right thing to do. Selfishness has no value. Selflessness is where the treasure resides. ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae, husband to Linda for 30 years (and counting); Dad to Susan, Thomas, Timothy, David and Benjamin; Granddad (Guy) to Justin and Megan; has contributed over 300 articles to Useless-Knowledge.com.
