Jan. 27, 2005 Just thirty years ago such a question would have seemed preposterous, even though black and white nationalists were espousing such rhetoric. Especially with the McCarran-Walters act in effect (the 1950’s version of the Patriot Act, which spawned the infamous McCarthy Communist witch hunts). Supposedly this “Internal Security Act” was repealed in 1990, but elements of it are alive and well. Housing projects designed to be quickly converted to concentration camps best illustrates this point.(Ever notice the fact railroad tracks “just happen” to be located near most?) Even with the abolition of groups like RAM (Revolutionary Action Movement), US, The Black Panthers and SNCC, the fear of race war is still pervasive in the psyche of white radicals and worse, even espoused by some of the more hardcore militants. (Don’t get me wrong, it ain’t like brothas are worried). In this day and age, such talk ads fuel to the fire of fear fanned by those purveyors of fear, the Republican party. With some Islamic leaders vowing to support black Americans in such a debacle paranoia is pervasive. So taking this mindset into account let’s ask ourselves one question: Who was the Patriot act designed to stop—attackers outside America, or those “potential” attackers from within? Worse, is this a rationale for gun control, suspension of civil liberties and eventually martial law? Not being a conspiracy theorist, I would answer none of the above. John Ashcroft is merely the equally evil twin of “Jane” Edgar “Do these red pumps go with this pink dress?” Hoover. Also take into account that American troops are already spread thin in Iraq, Afghanistan and other posts throughout the world and you have the doomsday scenario that has whites shivering in their fur- lined snow boots. The Patriot Act is in short, is aimed at America’s worst nightmare –BLACKS! In particular young black males who feel they have nothing to lose. Carl Rowan wrote, "The African American potential for destruction is incalculable should even a thousand desperately angry blacks become allies of the foreign terrorists who wish to do great harm to this country," You see, while Timothy McVeigh might be the most notable American-born terrorist, he is perceived as the exception rather than the rule. Certain Americans worry about the large numbers of minorities serving in the military (some 40%) who might take their skills back to the ghettos and barrios of the inner cities and wreak havoc. Again I ask, who is the patriot Act really aimed at? But why would anyone in their right mind want to see race war come to fruition? The operative phrase in the previous sentence was “right mind”. Let’s keep it real: Collectively speaking, Americans haven’t been playing with a full deck for some time and Timothy McVeigh, The Unabomber and William Pierce are proof of that. It is men like that—and blacks who are fed-up with the status quo—that might trigger an incident that would make the Civil war look like a picnic at the Playboy mansion. ------------ About the author: Timothy Stelly is the 45-year old author of "Tempest In The Stone" and the upcoming, "The Malice of Cain".
