I Got An "F" On My Essay For Mentioning God

By Kayley G
Jan. 18, 2005

I had to write an essay on "cloning and if scientists have gone over boundaries trying to clone humans" Well he's what I put:

Are scientists going over boundaries by trying to clone humans? First, the definition of cloning. Then the history and the different types of cloning. Then I will explain why I think they have gone over boundaries by attempting to clone human beings. And which animals have been cloned and lastly the risks of cloning.

Cloning is used by scientists to describe different processes for duplicating biological material. There are three different types of cloning. The first type: Recombinant DNA technology or DNA cloning is defined as “the transfer of a DNA fragment of interest from one organism to a self replicating genetic element such as bacterial plasmid.” The DNA interest can then be propagated in a foreign host cell. The second type is: reproductive cloning which is “a technology used to generate an animal that has the same nuclear DNA as a previously existing animal. ”The third type is therapeutic cloning or embryo cloning, which is defined as: “the production of human embryos for use in research”.

The animals that have been cloned so far are: sheep, goats, cows, mice, pigs, cats, rabbits, and even the endangered gaur. The first animal that was cloned was a tadpole in 1952. Hundreds of cloned animals exist today, but not all species are successful. Scientists have still not successfully cloned: monkeys, chickens, horses, and dogs after many trys. Because some animals resist nuclear transfer more than others.

I believe that cloning humans is wrong because then they will be like animals and not be able to go to heaven or hell that they will just die. And they will owe their life to the scientist that made them instead of God. They will probably be treated like lab rats. And it is morally wrong to clone human beings. And people will probably never leave them alone and people will probably treat them like freaks.

The risks of cloning. Cloning (especially reproductive cloning) is very expensive and highly inefficient. 90% of cloning attempts fails to produce a clone. It takes about 100 nuclear transfer procedures to produce one clone that usually dies in the same day. Even if a clone appears healthy at a young age it is a bad indicator of long-term survival.

It was five paragraphs and I wrote exactly what they told me to write. So what do you think I got? An A? Perhaps a B? Maybe even a C? No, I got not any of those I received an F. For what you ask? "I believe that cloning humans is wrong because then they will be like animals and not be able to go to heaven or hell that they will just die. And they will owe their life to the scientist that made them instead of God." I got an F for mentioning my religious beliefs.
