Jan. 6, 2005 Life has gotten considerably better. Why? Well, I made a decision that will improve my finances so, I can afford my son's new braces. What decision would help improve finances? I decided to not pay for TV anymore. I know that my finances will improve, my son's grades will go up and I will not feel obligated to watch something that has more than thirty percent commercials. Cable TV was a great idea, a person could choose the progaming without commercials. Somehow the advertisers figured out that they were not reaching people and small cable channels wanted into a market of specialized programing. The marriage happened and commercials moved into the Cable TV channels. Before I decided to make this decision, I timed a favorite program of mine on the National Geographic Channel for how long the commercials ran in the hour of the show I was watching. The total time was 18 minutes. This shocked me because I was paying for 18 minutes of advertising. In a 24 hour period or 1440 minutes, I was paying for 432 minutes of commercials. I was also paying for 50 channels and if each channel had 18 minutes of commercials for each hour program, I was paying for 21,600 minutes of adevertising. Nobody could possibly watch that much TV in a day but over a few days the advertising that my family and I were watching added up to hours. I did feel obligated to watch TV because I was spending money on it. Now that all changes. My son needs braces, he comes before paying for TV, but I don't think I will miss much since most of what I was watching was commercials. And why pay for that? ------------ About the author: Being a full time writer is the hardest job that I have tried.
