Feb. 28, 2005 You can see them in any town, in any state in the country. Standing on a corner of any ragged- out part of town, trying to make eye contact with someone who they feel will make them a profit. What I am alluding to is the small-time drug dealer; filthy scum that prey on the weaknesses of human beings who cannot cope with life as it is. Every now and then, one of these punks will be hauled off to jail in what authorities laud as a major bust. This pathetic cycle continues on like clockwork; a never ending flow of muck into a sea of apathetic misery. That being said, what if there was such a thing as government sanctioned drug dealing? To answer that question, there is...and it happens almost every time one of those stupid drug commercials is flashed across the television screen. These companies are the real drug dealers-with our governments help. I have never in my life seen so many commercials aimed at some problem that we as humans are supposed to have, which can be fixed by these "miracle" pills. Whether you have depression, are tired, fidgety, cranky, forgetful, stinky, stupid, have clogged veins, slow bowels, or yellow toenails, there is a pill for it. These charlotans even have a drug out now that is supposed to allow women to have just four periods within a year! Not only are we targeted to be sold drugs that are supposed to cure a problem, we are supposed to buy drugs which will "cure" a completely normal function. Maybe soon these evil clowns will come out with a pill so that we can only be subject to use the bathroom once a week. After all we're so busy...and this pill could save us so much valuable time. The pill would surely be a hit with, on-the-go mom's and business people. Now the side effects with a pill like this would be obvious, everyone that uses it would be full of it... Seriously, I think that there is a limit to how far these drug pushing companies can go, but as I alluded to earlier, there is no limit. Not as long as this powerful lobby has the Republican ear. Not only do these drug dealers have the conservative Republican ear in Washington, the Republican's want to make it even more profitable for them. That's why they want to stand in the way of citizens who want to buy cheaper drugs from Canada. So therefore, not only are we bombarded with ads for dangerous and unnecessary drugs, we have to buy them at twice the price if we want them. Only those who want these drugs that are lucky enough to live in states that border Canada are able to get them. In closing, I don't want to make it seem as though taking any prescription drug is unnecessary, there are a few good ones that address real health issues. What we don't need is government sanctioned drug dealers who try to push drugs on us that are not needed and may be unsafe, for a profit. What people need to realize is that the conservatives idea of freedom is only one that is profitable, whether or not it is at the expense of anyone's well- being. ------------ About the author Brian Edward Scott Sr.: I like to write about issues that I feel are questionable in the least, or just downright stupid.
