Feb. 25, 2005 It has been a while since my fingers tapped out words on the keyboard. The last vestiges of the Cold which I was suffering from in the beginning of the month, is finally taking its leave of my lungs and sinus cavities. While it inhabited my body the Cold has left in its wake a path of sore muscles and an aching back (from coughing), aggravated by two blown discs, Arthritis, and degenerative bone disease. I have become an expert on OTC (Over The Counter) medications, spending at least $60 on non-prescription concoctions which acted as prophylactics, housing the worst effects of the invader in a maze of suppressants, expectorants, menthol eucalyptus cough drops, and fever reducers. Which OTC's worked the best? Well, they all worked 4-6 hours at a time, and seemed to quit at 3 o'clock in the morning! My sleep was constantly interrupted by revengeful coughing, sneezing, and "I hope my feet can get me to the toilet in time," annoyances. The worst part of this whole experience, was running out of tissues during a vicious sneeze, in the middle of the night. Get the visual? The five side effects of the OTC's which really were worst than the cold itself were: Daytime Cold Relief - The constant buzzing in my head, and general pissed-off mood. Night-Time Cold Relief - The constant buzzing and ringing in my head, and drunken stupor (courtesy of the remedies in an alcohol base). When ill, I suffer in silence and hide. Me a whiner, NO Way! I refuse to have anyone at my "beck and call". In fact, my mind goes into denial, and I continue to go about my daily routine around the house. That is, until my body and mind says "Enough Already"! Then, exhaustion forces my body into a 12-18 hour extreme tossing and turning event in my bed, slumber. How do I feel now? Better! Thank You! However, the Cold Bug robbed me of two weeks of my life, which I will never get back!!! Believe me, at 50 years young, that is a long block of time. So, to all that have missed my weekly Rants and Raves - I'M BACK!!! To my detractors who have had a vacation from my intolerable logic, mind bending dysfunctional thought processes, and had hoped that I had left this Earth - Sorry to have disappointed you (LOL!). COUGH, COUGH, WHEEZE, SNEEZE, SNIFFLE, SNIFFLE, COUGH, WHEEZE...
