Feb. 23, 2005 Though I do not condone physical torture of any human being, I find it hard to feel remorse for terrorists that have been captured and tortured. Our American soldiers are facing a constant threat of being blown up by car bombs, roadside bombs and rocket attacks. The Abu Ghraib tortures were a result of some Americans taking revenge for fallen soldiers. I do not think they thought they would get caught and I do not think it was all for pleasure. Sure, some may have enjoyed it, but I think a majority were just taking their frustrations out on the captured individuals. Where was all the world attention when Vietnam veterans were being tortured? Where were they when Saddam tortured the Kurdish people? Where were they when the Jewish soldiers were being buried to their necks with theirs genitals cut off and stuffed in their mouth? The world leaders could care less about America at all. They could care less if Israel was blown off the face of the earth. And they could care less what some third world countries are doing to their own people. A few known followers of terrorists groups are said to be tortured by either American soldiers or CIA or FBI, and all of a sudden the world is in an uproar. Forget about all those who died by terrorist attacks. But let us care for a few terrorists who got mistreated. I think not. I favor the death penalty in the U.S. and abroad for anyone who decides to take a life. If by some form of physical torture lives can be saved, so be it. I don’t like it, but it happens. Do I hate people of Middle Eastern decent? Nope, I can’t say that I do. I have had some very interesting political conversations with some of these people. I even call them friends. They do not like or support terrorist attacks either. It’s kind of funny how most of the countries that are upset with our presence in the Middle East are also those countries that were doing business with Saddam and the PLO. Russia supplied the Iraqi army with jamming devices in the first Gulf War. France was supplying technical advice on weapon systems before this War. China’s been there and the list goes on. We were even stupid enough to help Saddam at one time when Iran and Iraq were having it out. How did Saddam repay us? He paid a pilot to shoot an Exocet anti-ship missile at the USS Stark in the Persian Gulf. Nice friend. We have helped Turkey out for so long and they repay us by demanding millions of dollars to come through their land and air space. We were doing nothing but trying to save people from dying. They were in it for greed. It goes on and on. Maybe if the United Nations were in fact united, we as a collective union could rid this world of most terror. You see, we’re in this alone for the most part. The World Trade Center clean up was in fact done almost entirely by the U.S. The budget, land and utilities of the United Nations are paid mostly by whom? The U.S. of course. It is time for a change. Kick the United Nations out. Kick out all people who do not have their citizenship. Accept no imports from any nation. Pull all our troops out of every country. Stop buying oil from the Middle East. Help no country in distress. Export nothing to anyone (maybe Canada). Let’s see how fast oil prices drop. Let’s see how many people die from diseases. Let's see how many people die from starvation. Now let the world cry. Let them wipe their own tears. ------------ About the author: Edward V. Hineline currently resides in Toledo, Ohio, with his wife and two children.
