Howard Dean, The Screamer, Replaces Terry McAuliff As DNC Chairman

By David Allen Jared
Feb. 13, 2005

It appears almost certain that the Democrats are going to pick former Governor Howard Dean to be the new DNC Chairman, replacing Terry McAuliff, former Clinton fundraiser, best known for gleaning for the Clinton campaigns, bushels of illegal campaign dollars from the Riady Group, Communist China and other places. McAuliff presided over two elections during which the Democrats lost not only the Presidency, but control of the Senate, suffered even bigger losses in the House of Representatives, several State legislatures and a dozen or so governorships. One supposes those two things will be his legacy. His loss of control of most political entities and garnering all that illegal cash for his mentor, Bill Clinton.

Howard Dean (he of the primordial scream after losing the Iowa caucuses in 2004) was best known during the campaign FOR that scream, but as well for the far-left positions he took on the economy, war on terrorism and foreign policies in general. He was even too far left for the Democrats, apparently, who rejected his presidential aspirations out of hand in favor of an east-coast, multi-millionaire elitist with an almost non-existant Senate record and a VERY suspect record as both a Navy Lieutenant and anti- war activist. Kerry was also the man who, despite approval ratings for his opponent below 50% at the start of the campaign, STILL mananged to lose the race by three million-odd votes, yet the Democrats considered him to be the superior candidate to Dean. Now Dean is virtually assured of assuming the leadership of the DNC.

Republicans must be pumping their arms and giving off a resounding, "YESSS!" at the news, since it almost assures that the Democrats will remain back-benchers for some time to come. Ex-Governor Dean didn't govern from the far left in particular, but his opinions expressed in the presidential campaign certainly were further left than almost anyone other than Dennis Kusinich. He did manage to keep his candidacy viable by very effective use of the internet as a fund- raising tool and that may be his major appeal now, but the fact that his avid supporters were referred to as "Deaniacs" should give us some idea of who these folks were and that they represented the extreme far left of the party. Putting Dean in charge may get the Democrats even more money than before, but it will not soften their image as being the party of big government, high taxes, soft defense and more and more control of peoples' lives through over-regulation- -and THAT's what sank them before.
