Dec. 31, 2004 Ok Ok now this is really getting me upset. Every sports website has an article today regarding the NBA All star voting. Yao is supposedly the leading vote getter, with 60,000 more votes than Shaq. What these articles fail to mention is that people from China (Yao's home country) are able to vote via the internet. How many people live in China? 1.2 billion!! Thats right, check it out for yourself if you don't believe me. The headline of this article is very deceiving, it's leading people to believe that Yao is somehow more popular and a better player than Shaq. Anybody who knows anything about basketball knows that this a major misstatement. It's another example of the media trying to make a superstar out of a player who's just slightly better than the rest. Why do they want to make him a superstar? I'm thinking it's because of his clean cut image. That's wack.... basketball is all about the attitude, the dunks, the great no look passes and the way the players express themselves on the court. There's no doubt that todays players are part of the hip hop generation and alot of older white people have a problem accepting that. I'm sure that all comes with getting old and not being able to relate. but the more and more I keep hearing all these old white journalists rip on the players for this reason, the more upset I get.
