Single On New Year's Eve But Much To Be Grateful For

By Judy Ramsook
Dec. 30, 2004

I guess I will be among the many singles this New Year's Eve as we ring in another twelve months, as I am not seeing anyone on a steady basis. A celebration I am not much looking forward to since most of these types of celebrations seem to be couple oriented.

For when the clock strikes midnight, someone raises his/her glass containing the beverage of their choice to that other special someone in a celebratory gesture.

One of my relatives has already taken pity on me by inviting me to their end of the year celebrations. An event I may attend, but as I look back to the past months that have led up to this time, I do have much to be thankful for.

For it was this year that my book was published and also the same time that I started writing columns for this high traffic Useless-Knowledge site. Both things for which I am truly grateful.

Although I have been reading about an abundance of negative reports about PublishAmerica, I am still pleased that they took my book seriously enough to think it worthy of publication, for it is a story of fiction I wanted to share with readers everywhere; for they did publish it without asking me for a dime.

And when they decided to place it in print, I knew that PublishAmerica was not a big time operation like Random House. But in order for a big name like Random House to even consider your work, it first has to be submitted by an agent; and seeking out the perfect agent can be quite a lengthy process.

In addition, the people with whom I dealt at PublishAmerica about the delicate nature of editing and formatting my manuscript into book form were quite pleasant and supportive. I have no regrets about allowing them to publish my book. For if I had gone to a big name publisher, I would have still had to do most of the promotional work on my own.

Thank you PublishAmerica and the editor of this Useless-Knowledge site for giving me opportunities I never thought I would have had and a Happy New Year to all. Being single does not feel so bad after all. I also would like to thank my family, friends and readers of my articles for making this an even more special year for me.
