Fox News Gives Both Sides Of The Story

By James B. Bergstad
Dec. 28, 2004

Deceptions can be perpetrated innocently, passed on free of guile, because they were perceived as “truth.” Deceptions are sometimes perpetrated because of supposed self-preservation. The latter is especially true in the case of our media and their presentation to us of “fact.” Most of the information we receive daily, excluding commercial advertisements, can be taken for a reasonable facsimile of the “truth.” Some of the words and phrases we hear, however, should not be taken at face value.

There are a few people who consider the Fox News Channel an “extreme right-wing propagandist network.” If you’ve watched some of the news programs, most people, thinking outside an ideologue’s mind-set, would agree Fox gives both sides of the story. Personally I think Fox News does the best job of giving their audience the facts. They don’t make judgments favoring either a right or left leaning point of view. Those steeped in their own ideology won’t agree, but that’s what makes the world go around. I point out Fox News because they are perpetrators of deception. They have fallen victim to the same misuse of phraseology that has been foisted upon the general public for some time. That, at least, is my judgment.

The word “Insurgency” is a case in point. I don’t care what particular network you choose to receive your daily infusion of world news. Undoubtedly there will be a report on the war in Iraq. You will hear reports of “Insurgents” blowing up this, or attacking that, or killing this number of Iraqis, or Iraqi police or God help us our young men. The news networks, and their use of the word “Insurgent,” to describe animalistic murderers in Iraq, puts my blood close to the boiling point.

“INSURGENT adj. Rising in revolt against civil authority or a government in power; rebellious. 1. One that revolts against civil authority. 2. A member of a political party who rebels against its leadership.” This definition certainly doesn’t describe the radical fundamentalist Islamists we and the Iraqi people are facing. Oh, there’s an argument some Bathist Party members are still fighting. That may be true, but I’d be willing to bet they can’t muster five hundred men. We are fighting TERRORISTS. They are recruited and infiltrated over the Iraqi borders by the hundreds. They are PAID ASSASSINS. PAID SUICIDE BOMBERS. They come from Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Ethiopia and even some idiots from the United States. These animals have only ONE SPECIFIC GOAL. That is the DEATH, by any means necessary, of anyone or any culture that is not Islamic in nature.

I believe its time to stop with the idiotic “politically correct” labeling of these murderers as “Insurgents.” If we don’t identify the enemy that means to KILL US; trust me, folks, THEY WILL KILL US. Please join me in writing or emailing your favorite news network. Demand they call these murderers by their true name “TERRORIST.” Some 46% of our population voted against the current administration, mostly because of the war in Iraq. What a great testament to the glorious freedom we have here in America. Despite the fact those voters objected to current policy there has been no revolt. We have begun to go back to our day to day lives. But we must stop and think. We must realize we have a much more serious problem to worry about than our dislike of George W. Bush. We will either destroy these mindless killers together or we will die together by their hand. Please don’t doubt it. They have the money, they have the intelligence and they have the methods to penetrate our borders easily. Nuclear devices are available; in Pakistan, in Russia, in the Balkans, in India, in France. Please don’t make the mistake of thinking it can’t happen here. Ben Laden already proved it can. Let’s get behind the effort to wipe out these murderous vermin. Let’s get smart or we and our children and grandchildren will get DEAD. That’s my opinion. It’s the only one I’m qualified to give.

About the author James B. Bergstad: I've explored this planet for sixty-six years. For the most part it's been a blast. I now indulge my passions of reading, writing and painting. My novel "Hyde's Corner" is awaiting publication. It is a taut period/drama set in the Oklahoma Panhandle. Sheriff Selmer Burks presides over the destruction of three families and the corruption of Hyde's Corner.
