Dec. 26, 2004 In the book of Daniel 9:24-27 there is a most impressive prophecy concerning Jesus birth. There it tells of his coming and his death as well. this prophecy begins in 455 bce. when the command went forth to rebuild Jersalem. A prophecy of 70 weeks of years. The Christ would appear at the beginning of the 70th week of years. this occurred at his baptism in 29 ce. When at his Baptism God's voice from heaven said "This is my son, whom I have approved" there he was anointed to do his father's will. His ministry lasted just three and a half years. Jesus was to be cut off at the middle of the prophetic week or three and a half years. He died on or about April one. or on the jewish calendar Nisan fourteen. counting back three and a half years places his baptism in twenty-nine ce. at the beginning of October. Luke tells us that Jesus was about thirty years old at his baptism, this would mean that Jesus' birth would be near the beginning of October. In harmony with Lukes account, the shepherds would still be out in the fields at night keeping watch over the flock. By nearly the end of December they would no longer be leaving the flock out in the field as it was too cold. Why was the birth date December twenty-five so easily accepted by those calling themselves Christians? The new Encyclopaedia Britannica in part says, "The traditional customs connected with Christmas have developed from several sources as a result of the coincidence of the celebration of the birth of Christ with the pagan agricultural and solar observances at midwinter. In the Roman world the saturnalia (December seven-teen) was a time of merrymaking and exchange of gifts. December twenty-five was also regarded as the birth date of the iranian mystery god Mithra, the Sun of Righteousness." So coversion to Christianity was much easier by allowing the converted to keep the traditional custom, but now calling it Jesus' birthday. ------------ About the author John H. Turner Jr.: John H.
