Dec. 26, 2004 I really do not think that it matters on which day that Christ was born. Just a simple basic belief in the fact that he was. The History Channel had a very interesting documentary about the History Of Christmas. Even the very bible that most read was embroiled in controversy. I think one person may have hit the nail on the head when he said what the real meaning of separation of church and state meant. The fact is that for most this is the time of year when our taxes have been mailed to us. Remember the different gospels said that Caesar had decreed a tax. It is also interesting to note that it was the Romans that picked December 25th as the date in which to celebrate this season. In some countries their customs are quite different in that they burn an effigy of Satan in order to celebrate. There are those that hold to the fact that Santa Claus is somehow evil. But it was a minister that wrote the famous legendary The Night Before Christmas. In fact during the early centuries it was the church that tried to stop the celebration of Christmas or yule tide season. So when one talks of separation of church and state it is more truthful that the church should not dictate what religion we believe. Or in some case chose not to believe. Me I do not see where the true date is important because I will believe what I chose to irregardless of any church or state's interference. I just recently found out what Kawanza is all about and actually it is more like a traditional Thanksgiving as we know it. But there is room for different ways of interpeting what this season is all about. Now for those that may find this strange let me explain something. My cousin's wife died yesterday from a malignant brain tumor. She had been in pain for a long time and had graciously struggled against many things in her life. To me that is a gift to not have to suffer anymore from a disease in which you cannot get well. So if her death on Christmas Eve surrounded by friends and her family in an environment of love isn't a gift then maybe you missed the point. You see she had struggled against a husband that had strayed and yet she loved him. They did manage to reasonally raise three beautiful children. Brenda was active in her community and to me was a prime example of a real lady. She also understood forgiveness in that she forgave her husband. I was very sorry that she had brain cancer as I am for anyone that has this disease but I am also glad that she no longer has to suffer. While there Christmas will be sad no doubt as it is for many throughout the World she did believe in the miracle of that birth. She probably is enjoying her new wings and where she is she too would say. It does not matter when he was born what matters is that she believed that he was. No church or state or differing opinion can take that from her. As for the rest with different opinions that is okay too. God is big enough he can handle whatever we throw at him.
