Christmas Is Over [Now, Where's The Batteries?]

By Lee Zelhart
Dec. 26, 2004

Okay, Christmas is over. Now it's down to the last few days of the year. Of course, for some this is still the Christmas season(remember the 12 days of Christmas? Forget the partridge.)

The day after, for some in English speaking countries(and Ireland which speaks some form of English)this is Boxing day. A day to heavily tip your employees and those who do you a service. Remember that when having a pizza delivered.

Now the best part of the holiday is here. Gift exchanges! No, not unwrapping presents...taking them back to the store and getting what we really want. I got Uncle Buck with John Candy from my daughter. I like John Candy and I always wanted to see Uncle Buck, but I was hoping for Spiderman 2. Never mind. Merry Christmas, Holly. I love you.

That's probably why so many people give gift cards. That eliminates the personal part of it. That says, Hey, I'm too busy to pick something thoughtful. I don't care enough to be bothered. Of course it's better then an ugly tie, I suppose.

Some people haven't even sent out their cards. I haven't yet. I will when I get some made. I make my own. I like to be personal. I design my own cards.(see e-mail address for more information)I just put the tree up this morning.

Actually, I had my brother who'd come over to help me take the Christmas dinner to Moms take it out of the box. It was soon sitting all trimmed from the last Christmas on the dining room table.

I haven't gotten my daughter anything yet. I have to have the money first. I'd like to get her something, but I forgot what it was she wanted. I guess sometimes gift cards come in handy. Anyway, after Christmas sales she'll get more bang for the buck. My mom got candy, but I'm going to make her a calender. She'll like that. She and my daughter have back to back birthdays in a month anyway. Oh well...

We still also have to send the presents to the relatives out of state and my mother in law. Of course we still have her gift from last year, but that's because we haven't been able to get hold of her. She shut herself off from everyone when my wife died. It's sad. Her loss. The only question I have now is...where's the batteries?
