The Contrarian Ron Lewis

By Sher Zieve
Dec. 17, 2004

Over the past week, or so, I have read with interest Ron Lewis’ comments on and critiques of [both] Ken Hughes’ spelling and Michael John McCrae’s ideology. Today, Mr. Lewis has even written an article that firmly places him in the midst of the ongoing ‘Eminem fray’. As I find it amusing when writers only appear to respond to the ideas of others, with a contrarian viewpoint (and having a few questions of my own pertaining to one of Mr. Lewis’ recent articles), I thought that I might ask him a few questions.

Mr. Lewis, in your article “Hopefully The Last On This Topic” you wrote: “Without intending to boor, I originally described intolerance and its effects, and how people's absolute views make discussion with me impossible.” As this sentence made little sense to me, I deemed it necessary to ask if you meant “Without intending to BE a boor…” (AKA lout, oaf, fool) or “Without intending to bore…” (IE: ‘a tiresome person’ or ‘something that is devoid of interest’). Which did you intend? By changing this section of your piece, it will possess more intelligibility. I, also, noted that you used the word ‘simply’ eight times in said article. In order to not be inordinately repetitive, you may wish to consider using alternative verbiage such as ‘only’, ‘merely’, ‘purely’ or ‘basically’. As you have tirelessly and altruistically provided aid to Mr. Hughes, I believed it appropriate that I provide you with assistance. No thanks are necessary, Sir. My only consideration is to be of help to you.
