Dec. 14, 2004 Admitting where I come from is a freeing exercise. By owning what people called me in the past, it no longer matters to me if I am called it again. "Trailer Trash" is only a name but when a child hears those kind of unkind remarks it hurts at the time, because a child only understands that where they live is a home, not a life style. A definition of the "trailor trash" is from the following: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=trailer+trash&r=d: "trailer trash- Derogatory description for person who seems well- suited to residential life in a mobile home park and is distinguished by poor hygiene, foul language, slovenly or slutty clothing, and general ignorance. Recreations include drinking malt liquor in lawn chairs under tattered R.V. awning and teenage pregnancy. Close synonymn for poor white trash. Can also be used as literal term for personal effects strewn by tornado when ripping though mobile home park. "Bambi acts like such trailer trash when she chugs malt liquor and belches." "She can clean it up, but underneath she's still trailer trash." Source: sharona, Nov 6, 2004" I have never fit that definition. To be successful in the world you have to have good hygiene, dress appropriately, and have some knowledge about what you are doing. I do use bad language occationally but only when driving and some person does not use their blinker. (that's a big pet peeve for me) Now to address what Ms. Williams wrote. She wrote in her second Eminem column: "First of all, why would you admit that you’re trailer trash? How honest do you have to be?" I try to be very honest. I am not perfectly honest by far, I have my days when I don't want to admit that I am overweight and/or days when I know my writing needs more polishing before I submit it to another agent. All of the people in the world try to be as honest as they can be on a daily basis. Honesty is the foundation of good commerse, if you can't trust a person to produce a quality product and deliever it on time, then that company goes out of business for not being honest with consumers. If a person is not honest on a witness stand then that person could be fined for pergury and/or be sent to prison. Admitting that I am "trailer tash" is freeing, even if the term no longer applies, because I am proud of what my dad could afford. He provided a roof over my head, food in my belly (when he was working) and used clothing on my back. He did his best under bad circumstances. Honesty about who I am and where I came from is for myself. I admitted it, as a way to show why I listen to Eminem. It is not the only reason I listen, but one of many. ------------ About the author: Being a full time writer is the hardest job that I have tried.
