Thank You PublishAmerica And Thank You Stan

By Darrel Robert Day Jr.
Dec. 12, 2004

Hmmmm? Weren't we here not so very long ago??? I read the articles submitted by Stan and Eddie. In fact, I read them both several times. To be a good writer, you must feel the words that you are typing. To be a great writer, you must cause the READERS to feel your words. I felt the words of both Stan and Eddie. But there was a difference in the two of them. From Eddie I felt perhaps pent up disappointment and ire. The feeling could have been from being angry that his stories didn't do what he wanted them to do. It could also be from the realization that when you sign a contract, it is there for a purpose.

When I joined the military, too many years ago to want to say, I signed a contract with them. After about a year, I decided that it wasn't all that I thought it would be. I was a little disappointed. Not because the Air Force had NOT done what they promised they would do. They taught me to be a soldier and train me in a job that would allow me the chance to use those skills one day i the "outside" world. It was the fact that I was now trained and felt that my "talents" could be put to better use elsewhere. OHHHHHHHHHH, what a surprise waited for me when I walked in and asked them to "let me out of my contract". The Air Force promptly showed me my signature on the contract and said, No!!.They worked with me and talked with me and I finally saw the light. I finished out the next three years and have never looked back in regret. I realized they had done exactly what I had asked them to do for me. The very reason for signing the contract.

What the heck has this got to do with Eddie or Stan or publishamerica??? Everything. Eddie signed a contract with his publisher because he wanted them to do what he could not do himself. Publish his stories. They did EXACTLY what you asked them to do and I will bet not without some excitement on Eddie's end either. He was unhappy with where he was or the way they reached His goals so he wanted out. OHHHHHHHHHH, that same surprise that I received from the Air Force...

I have two novels with PublishAmerica and never in any contract that I signed with them did they promise to make me a number one best seller. No where in the contract did they say I would outsell the rest of the thousands of Authors in the world that want the same thing that I want. They HAVE done what I asked them to do. They published my novels and placed them with book- stores like Barnes and Noble and Amazon and borders and... and ... and... They have done what I could have never accomplished myself. Not because I am ignorant or incapable. They did what I couldn't because they have the resources bot financially and people-wise. They do this for a living, I do not. I am the writer and I do what I do very well. They are the publisher and they also do what they do, very well.

Stan said it before me and said it well. He could have spent a long time pursueing what PublishAmerica has already done for him. His words rang with the sound that I know very well. Stan wrote with the passion and excitement that authors throughout the world write with when they are accepted and become a published author.

Publishers invest a great deal of time and money into making our books as good as they can be.The statement by Eddie that his works were never edited should make him proud. He must have written what Hemingway said didn't exist. The perfect novel. I say this because I know for certain that my novels have been edited by publishamerica. They even took the time to print excerpts from Grammer books to show me why they had made the changes they had made to my novels. God knows that for most of us, we are just the writer. Not English Scholars or grammer teachers. Most of us have been out of school to long to remember our english lit. classes. I say that with a smile and speak truly for myself.

The reason for writing this article is nottttt to bash anyone. I am sure Eddie's works are very good or he would not have received a contract in the first place. I would like the chance to read them one day as I would Stan's works. I wrote this to say that not all of us will be always happy with our publisher but we trust in them enough to sign a contract. If we are unhappy then simply don't sign one again with them. There are soooo many publishers just waiting for you to contact them. It is your call as it always is. But don't bash the company you are so hard trying to leave. Just move on and let the other authors take a chance at getting their book published. I say, thank you publishamerica and thank you Stan.

Enjoy the feeling of knowing your book is being looked at by someone other than your family and close friends.
