Aug. 31, 2005 Sacsayuaman [Fortress] Peru I visited this site one afternoon when I had been in the are of Cuzco, Peru, on one of my many trips to Peru; I think now, my seventh or eighth. Anyhow, I always call the sight: sexywoman, but it is not so, it is properly called: Sacsayuaman, and not far from Cuzco. The elevation is a little higher, perhaps 200-feet higher than Cuzco, making it 12,200-feet. It is a large religious complex, dedicated to the cult of the sun. And they have at times many celebrations here, amongst these great granite walls. On tope of these walls, I look like a grasshopper; they are so enormous, these walls, walls built of huge stone blocks, worked, and fitted together with amazing skill. I seen some of this work also on Easter Island; as legend has it, Peruvian craftsmen were kidnapped and brought to the island to do just that, work on great walls similar to this, and I seen these walls on Easter Island, and you’d swear they were from the same craftsman. Ollantaytambo: Stronghold of the Incas I also visited a site called Ollantaytambo; there was much warfare in this area. A great battle on this site took place. It is somewhat of a stepped site; it is kind of a fortress, town all built together, on the hill side of a valley. I found myself checking out caves nearby, and felt I best leave it alone, not knowing what I might find. This fortified site, belonged to the empire of Tahuantisuyu, with its vast walls and temple, similar to Sacsayuaman, and nearby; I mean if you have a car it is nearby. Again, the blocks used to build this site are enormous and perfectly cut and fitted together, different than Sacsayuaman, but similar in craftsmanship. ------------ About the author: Mr. Siluk is a world traveler, a lover of the mysteries around the world, and has visit many World Heritage Sites, his most recent being Easter Island, the Galapagos and Mesa Verde.
