Aug. 30, 2005 Although it has been downgraded to a Tropical Depression, Katrina has left an unforgettable path of destruction behind in Louisiana, Mississippi, and parts of Alabama. Homes and businesses have been flattened as a good eighty percent of New Orleans sits in a mass of water. And most who sought shelter from the storm in the Super Dome are trying to cope the best they can, then there are some who might not be coping as well. According to a recent news report, a man who sought shelter in the Super Dome was so overcome with depression, and all that he may have lost, that he succumbed to suicide as he reportedly jumped from the top of the dome to the bottom. Also hard hit was Mississippi. With each day that goes by, that state stands to lose $500,000 worth of revenue everyday that their Mississippi Casino boat remains unused. Also people are without utility services such as electricity and cellular telephone usage, as power lines have been damaged by the destructive force of Katrina. Then there is the human factor in all of this. And the raw, ugly side too. Some people are engaging in acts of looting what others have worked so hard to obtain. Mother Nature has caused severe damage and moved on, but now, a harsher reality sets in; the scenes the evacuees have to face when they return to view the chaos that is their destroyed homes they now have to restore or rebuild.
