Aug. 30, 2005 By means of a mysterious "mystical" process that employs no conscious memory, no numerical calculation, no reasoning, and no conscious effort, a person brings up a voice and writes down what the voice says as the voice speaks. This process is very pleasurable, and it engages other persons as well. The process is not competitive and it explains itself in writing: encourage every happy talent to manifest itself! School, of course, emphasizes memory each day, and each day school children compete to prove who has the best memory. Society grades children and rewards those children who do very well in school! But this non-rational, non-retentive process works only as a person's memory is switched off, so that what is produced is not a copy but an original. This isn't a process that schools encourage because schools encourage students to develop and use their memories and their reasoning powers. Established schools emphasize the old traditional ways. After going to school for many years, and after joining in many conversations where many persons share their memories and reason together, a person may be affected by this "mystical" process and leave society to experience the mystery of a different mode of cognition. As the inner voice speaks, using only the one dominant pen hand the affected person may write down what the voice says. Using an alphanumeric keyboard the writer can involve twice as much of the brain and body in contacting, developing, demonstrating, and employing the oracular voice! The computer and the Internet enable many more persons to witness this automatic process in action! You witness it now as you read this article. No normally conscious person composed this. Oh yes, the article has been revised, about as much as a young boy is revised by circumcising his penis. Furthermore, I rejoice to say that the pain of revising ideas and writings is much much less than the pain of circumcision. So to devoted writers I say, bring it on! Revise, REvise, and REEVISE! I say the same to all Bible Writers and students of any other Holy Book. The WORD is always tentative. Open your mouth and people will revise what you say. You can count on it! Most children are great imitators, and society shapes their minds utterly. The child who innovates a lot more than usual might not ever copy well or learn what other children say and do. This lack of imitative behavior may be perceived as a defect, a retardation, a damage, or a disorder! For such a determined innovator school is a form of daily torture. Daily social interaction itself is a gauntlet to be run. With so much negativity and denial in imitative people, the naturally "compulsive" innovator is likely to often feel dammed, damned, and doomed. In time, however, the dam may break, the mystical inner light may be seen and the inner call may be heard, and the apparently chronically defective person may intrude into society with a renewed vigor. This intrusion may even produce a new and more tolerant social order. It's more likely, however, to simply produce more negative reactions and the abuse of other "Christs." Imitative people want everything to stay the same, no ifs, ands, or buts. The innovation process itself is worthy of careful study. The joy it produces is sufficient so that the innovator is happy just letting the process work. No effort is required and no money is spent in enjoying this process. Years pass and no stress of competition is felt. No addiction is cultivated and the natural innovator stays young in appearance, thoughts, behavior, feelings, and expression. Memories of others' attacks and memories of other unpleasant events don't block the output of new works from this person for long. In fact this process will be a fountainhead of joy and youth for all people, once it has been studied scientifically and given the rubber stamp of academic approval. Evidence that this "mystical" process is real and progressive comes by examining the large output of writings by persons whose joy, talent, and progressive messages are not yet well received by many people. Quite as Baha'u'llah did, the originator offends all the totally tradition-bound authorities. They expect and even demand that a writer promote and defend some conventional time-honored method, rather than use a process that weakens conscious memory and other traditional processes. Indeed, it's not social rewards but joy in this non-rational, non-retentive process that keeps the originator working all the while. Other people give up on inspiration and fall into line. The compulsive originator is a strong drummer who sounds an extraordinary beat. Think about it. Use your imagination. Furthermore, as you keep on groping for answers, don't ever give up the peace. "All people in the world, including the Thai people, are now in the same situation as were the Kalama people of Kesaputtanigama, India, during the time of the Buddha. Their village was in a place through which many religious teachers passed. Each of these teachers taught that his personal doctrine was the only truth, and that all others before and after him were wrong. The Kalamas could not decide which doctrine they should accept and follow. The Buddha once came to their village and the kalamas brought up this problem with him: that they did not know which teacher to believe. So the Buddha taught them what is now known as the Kalama Sutta, which will examine here." ------------ About the author: John L.
