Aug. 29, 2005 Parents cannot totally stop teenagers from being themselves. They can only pray that they get through the "sowing wild oats" stage unscathed. Sadly, this does not appear to be the case for the daughter of Beth Holloway Twitty. It is not Natalee Holloway's fault. It is not her parent's fault nor it is Aruba's fault. Some will criticize Beth or the fact that it is a high profile case about another white woman in trouble. Aruba did not have the savvy or resources to deal with this unusual situation. Hindsight is 20/20. Nevertheless, Aruban citizens are volunteering to dig up landfills. A pond has been drained. Special help has been sent in from Holland. The FBI is involved. This is evidence that Aruba wants the potential crime solved. How many of us would be doing exactly what Beth Holloway Twitty is doing if we were in her shoes. Beth is to be praised because she is doing a service for all of us. Natalee is not the first nor will she be the last white or otherwise woman to disappear in a foreign. There are other families who may not have had the resources to pursue the disappearance of a loved one to the extent that Beth has. Their pain is just as real and intense as hers. The high profile and Beth's actions will create changes that help future victims and their families. In July there were amber alerts involving five Hispanic Children. All five of the children were recovered alive. Three of the children were taken to Mexico. The Mexican Government worked the United States to bring these children home. One alleged creep took his girlfriend's eight year old daughter to Mexico. Perhaps he wanted a child bride. The Mexican government does not want to immediately give him back. They want him to languish for at least 35 years in a Mexican Prison. Afterwards they will send back the pieces of him for the United States Prison system. It used to be that criminals could steal kids. They could hide themselves and the kids in Mexico. That is not a reality anymore. The reason that five Hispanic children are home safe is because of the actions of parents like the Holloway/Twitty's. The parents of Adam, Polly, Megan, Amber; Carlie's became high profile and made changes to save the lives of countless children. It is a dubious hope that Natalee comes home but at least the family needs closure. Natalee will be a legacy that will have far reaching for other victim and their family.
