Aug. 26, 2005 Dear Ms. Florman, I have noticed your ongoing criticism of Beth Holloway Twitty's actions in Aruba. You also just wrote another article castigating her for the fundraiser she is planning in order to continue her stay in Aruba. Your comment at the end was telling, "Are they going to dig up Aruba AGAIN?" Rather than waste your time reminding you that if it were your daughter or son who was missing and that you would probably do the same thing, I would like to take a different tack with you. Obviously, you have heard from all of Beth's supporters by now and you continue to blast away at the Holloways for their relentless pursuit of the truth in the disappearance of their daughter. So, it is apparent to me that you believe yourself to be justified in your criticism of the Holloway family and their actions which not only led up to this tragedy and their actions even now. The question remains, why? Why are you sitting there at your keyboard pounding away with your fingers every time Beth Holloway Twitty makes a move? Why is it so important for you to let the world know that you are sick and tired of the Holloway family being in Aruba? It seems you are sick and tired a lot these days. You are sick and tired of people glorifying Beth Twitty, a "minor school employee" as you called her. You are sick and tired of people "judging" Joran Van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers when they are "innocent until proven guilty" as you correctly point out. You are sick and tired of the Twittys and the Holloways, "living in luxury in hotels..being wined and dined free of charge..." You are sick and tired, yes. We get that. So, you boot up your computer and you tell the world what your mind thinks. You have that privilege. You have that right. This is a forum for you to express yourself. You can make any claims you want for or against anyone. I respect that. That is why what I am going to say to you needs to be equally respected by you. You are embarrassing yourself, Ms. Florman. For your sake, I wish you would stop. You are quickly becoming the laughingstock of Useless Knowledge Magazine. Your anger and pettiness concerning a family that is doing all they can to find their daughter is misplaced and shallow. The only fact you have been correct on in all your ramblings is that the three boys deserve a fair trial. They will get one if it goes that far and there is evidence that they committed a crime. Other than that, your attack dog mindset focused on the Holloways and the Twittys (and all who support them) has been sarcastically revealing. Your attempts to belittle them has reflected more upon you and your lack of intelligence and class than it has on your intended target. Case in point. The Holloways and Twittys are NOT being wined and dined in luxury. They are not getting huge grants from the Aruban government. Most of their expenses are paid for by themselves. This is not a party or a barbecue, Ms. Florman. This country is a potential crime scene with parents doing what they can to make it enough of one to send those guys away for a long, long time. If they are released or proven innocent, then Beth Twitty and Dave Holloway will go home, trust me. But, if they have to dig up every square inch of Aruba to satisfy their passion for a child they love who may have disappeared on a few FEET of that land, so be it. If it takes one hundred fundraisers to finish the digging, more power to them. This is their CHILD. I guess it is always easier to understand that once you lose one, huh? Your other accusations without fact bore me and the majority of the readers who have to wade through your thinly veiled defense of Aruba, the Dutch government and the Van der Sloots. Attacking Natalee Holloway in print for getting into a car and somehow making the mistake that cost her a life is as misguided as the rest of your logic. For some reason you never mention WHO was in that car. They are the ones who are responsible for her life from that point on. While the chaperones and her friends will have to live with their mistakes forever, how dare you blithely sit back at your keyboard and pick apart Beth Twitty, Dave Holloway, Natalee and anyone else you find it important to question when none of this would have happened if those three boys had been noble and protective of a girl who may have been drunk or may have been drugged. Since we don't know for sure why she was in the state she was in, I find your attacks on her reputation another example of your "shoot first, ask questions later" approach to be exactly what the Van der Sloots and the Kalpoes want it to be. You will continue to harp and carp about the fact there is very little evidence of a crime being committed and in essence you are right. But, if people followed YOUR logic, Scott Peterson was a good husband. You would have been telling everyone to get off his back. There was no evidence of a crime there until...they found two dead bodies. So, BECAUSE Beth Twitty and Dave Holloway don't yet have the evidence they are looking for, I am going to ask you to be a little more patient with them and quit making assumptions about how much wine they drink or how many mints are put on their pillow at night. Maybe when Beth gets back from her fundraiser, you can roll up your sleeves and help her DIG through Aruba. That would impress me a hell of a lot more than your writing on this case. If I want to read more of your character assassinations I can go to the Nixon library. Because the Van der Sloot family has refused any authorities on their property. Because they and the Kalpoe brothers have not turned over one stone in their efforts to help find Natalee. Because of the ongoing lies they have told over and over and over again, I think it is prudent for Beth and Dave to continue doing what they are doing because these actions we are seeing are NOT the actions of innocence. They are actions of a cover up. If there is no crime as you claim, then why is there a cover up? If there is a cover up, you need to consider supporting those who want the truth to come out eventually without all the demeaning comments concerning two grief-stricken families who are seeking that truth, or write about something else. Maybe you could do a piece on the "suffering" Ms. Van der Sloot or on the virile manhood of Joran. Because by the way you are trying to convince all of us that Beth Twitty is the real villain here, you might as well use your keyboard to make those who took Natalee that night (and those who are stonewalling the investigation now) the real heroes. One more thing....if you are really concerned about how much the Twittys or the Holloways tip the waitresses or whether or not they are courteous why don't you go work for them. I am sure they could use a valet or a maid. You will lose your keyboard, but it is steady work and it might give you insights into what you think you know what you are talking about. Then, you will finally see for yourself what Beth and Dave are really like instead of telling all of us what YOU believe them to be like. If you do not want them to smile, I have to wonder how much you smile. So here is my suggestion to you...have a nice day, Ms. Florman.
