United We Stand

By Bob D. Caterino

Isn't life grand? I am living in not one of, but the greatest country in the world. Where else can you see rolling hills, majestic mountains, tall buildings and small home town wonderment? People are wonderful here and pull together during crisis. The one thing that makes us better then the rest is the freedom to be individually different.

I think that America was built on influences. Let's take weird Al Yankovic, he is the parody king. I wonder if he became our beloved song jester because he listened to Allen Sherman or Homer and Jethrow. Or did Homer and Jethrow and Allen Sherman do what they did because they listened to Spike Jones? The same can be said for many other walks of life, well maybe not proctologists or morticians but definitely musicians and artists.

Through the challenge of the competitive nature of our society we thrive. Holy moly, I didn't know I had that last sentence in me. We compete to thrive and thrive through competition. We do not try to be just as our idols were but to be better then they were. This is not an insult by any means but a tribute of honor which is all well and great but any country in the world has that. Russia has their great leaders, scientists and artists and that's just in the asylums. Italy has its great wines, China has its very nice dishes, Grease has John Travolta and well you get my point.

America has to be different, greater and its public has a great wonder of imagination working for her. We let mimes live for god sakes. We have pole sitters, dog walkers, J.J. Walker, Johnnie Walker red and black, Black Eye Peas, It is definitely a melting pot and that is a sculpture on the east side of New York City. In the name of wonder do we thrive the best, of course. We are the underdog but yet on top of the heap. We our proud of our weirdness.

Oh sure we have had loads of setbacks but this only makes us pull together as a family. World War Two had six to eight million Jews die for no reason so we stood side by side fighting for all. Not just Americans rights but the rights of human kind. Eighty Million soldiers died protecting our rights, our rights to be anything we want.

Now we are the target. The world is jealous of our free lifestyle and will stop at nothing to stop us. It is like a kid with a new toy. There is always one kid that doesn't have so his mission is to break the toy. Well I have news for those kids out there. We won't break; we are very flexible and bounce back bigger and better. Come on we dare you to cross this line.
