Aug. 15, 2005 The Apostle Paul, the greatest evangelist in the history of the Christian church, wrote to the church at Corinth: "I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." Paul's message was "Jesus Christ and him crucified", he didn't set out to erect the greatest cathedral, create the biggest ministry, or become the most famous follower of Jesus Christ. The New Testament does not tell us how or when the Apostle Paul died, and history does not provide us with any clues. But Christian tradition has Paul beheaded in Rome, around 60 A.D., during the reign of Nero. One thing is certain, the apostle Paul did not die a rich man, he lived for the "glory of God." Jerry Falwell's message, on the other hand, seems to be "Jerry Falwell and him glorified", the "him" refers to Falwell. There is a "Jerry Falwell Museum" located in the campus of Liberty University that is a shrine to the glorification of everything Falwell. When I take a stroll around the campus of Liberty University, I don't see Jesus, I see Falwell this and Falwell that. Falwell's brand of Christianity is a "cult of personality" that seeks to exalt the name of Jerry Falwell. As an agnostic I'm not too thrilled with Christianity and even less thrilled with Fallwellianity. ------------ About the author: Robert Paul Reyes is a columnist for the Lynchburg Ledger and has written over 100 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
