Correlating Blackness And Criminality In American Cities
By Thomas Keyes
Aug. 11, 2005
According to www.infoplease.com (Information Please Almanac), the 10 major cities in the United States that have the greatest black population on a percentage-basis are the following, which are listed in order.
1.) Gary, Indiana
2.) Detroit, Michigan
3.) Birmingham, Alabama
4.) Jackson, Mississippi
5.) New Orleans, Louisiana
6.) Baltimore, Maryland
7.) Atlanta, Georgia
8.) Memphis, Tennessee
9.) Washington, D.C.
10.) Richmond, Virginia
According to statistics from www.morganquitno.com, the 14 cities with the highest crime rates, out of the 354 largest cities in the United States, are the following, again listed in order.
1.) Camden, New Jersey
2.) Detroit, Michigan
3.) Atlanta, Georgia
4.) St. Louis, Missouri
5.) Gary, Indiana
6.) Washington, D.C.
7.) Hartford, Connecticut
8.) New Orleans, Lousiana
9.) Richmond, Virginia
10.) Birmingham, Alabama
11.) Baltimore, Maryland
12.) Richmond, California
13.) Memphis, Tennessee
14.) Jackson, Mississippi
Suppose we have a revolving cage, as in a bingo hall, which contains 354 little balls or marbles. Among these balls, we have 10 that are black (blacker than the others) and we have 344 that are white (whiter than the others). We all know which is which and how many there are of each color before the game begins. Your turn comes up, you are told you may select 14 balls in all, and are challenged to guess how many black balls you will pick. Once you have made your guess, a computer figures the odds, and you place your bet accordingly. If your guess is 10 black balls, I think the formula for calculating the odds would be something like this, where 10! means 10 factorial, that is, 10x9x8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1 = 3,628,800.
Odds = [10! x 4! / 14!] x [354! / (10! x 344!)] - 1 to 1
According to this formula, the odds are about 7,484,000,000,000,000 to 1 against you, which is a very long shot indeed. If you bet $1, you'd win as much as the total gross world product for 150 years, at the current rate.
If the crime rates in the various cities throughout the country had no connection with race whatsoever, we would expect to find the 10 blackest cities scattered at random among the 354 major cities ranked by criminality. Thus we might find 2 or 3 in the first 100, 2 or 3 in the second 100, 2 or 3 in the third 100, and the rest in the other 54. The likelihood that all 10 would land in the top 14 is the exact analog of the probabilistic problem of the black balls and the white balls.
This is absolute proof that there is an infallible correlation between how black a city is and how great its crime rate, at least in the USA.
Please note that I am not passing judgment. I am not championing or espousing the ideals or values of the white majority, and I am not condemning or denouncing the ideals or the values of the black minority. Being an atheist, I do not believe that there is a God in heaven that hands down commandments that we all have to obey. I don't accept that it's axiomatic that a pugnacious nation armed to the teeth is unworkable or unviable.
What I don't like, however, is being lied to. For decades, I've heard people denying, minimizing, justifying and extenuating black criminality. The most common excuse, among those who at least admit that black criminality is high, is poverty. But there is very little real poverty in the United States. Anyone who thinks there is should visit the slums of Cairo, Rio de Janeiro or Bangkok. Then he'll see what poverty really is.
