Aug. 9, 2005 Although it is sad that Natalee Holloway is missing and possibly dead, it is sadder still that White missing people receive the greatest attention in our country, especially white, pretty, and young females. Aryan Race revisited? Is the media to blame for much of our discriminatory practices in this country? Does our media feed the bigotry and prejudice that still soaks the soil of this land? How many Asian missing people are out there? Blacks? Hispanics? Native Americans? How many old people are missing? How many young males are missing? Being uncounted for is not a racial event. It is multi-cultural and is something much deeper than the Natalee Holloways, Laci Petersons, or Elizabeth Smarts. It is deeper than the average mind can imagine. After all, we common folks cannot and are not able to climb inside the minds of kidnappers, child molesters, murderers, and other predators. We cannot fall into the caverns of perversity that dwell in these bottom feeders of our social ocean. However, our entertainment moguls sitting at their mother-of-pearl covered desktops do not see this pandemic social disease as a problem needing solved. They see it as a rating percentage, a viewer number. They see it as an increase in sixty-second commercial slots. Money drives the wheels of showbiz. Market shares are the muscles and sinew of the shark-infested waters of the news business. Don’t think for a moment that the White majority of CEOs in the network business are any different than the White supremacy groups hanging out in your rural backyards of America. The difference? Being a CEO is a much more socially acceptable position than that of the Grand Funkness of your local Neo Nazi Organization. CEOs are smart, right? It is terrible that Natalee’s family must suffer the loss of a loved one, but there are thousands who suffer alone, without the benefits of Nancy Grace, Solidad O’Brian, or Larry King. Where are our White CEOs when the ghetto misses one of its own? Where are they when an aging Black woman is killed for the five bucks in her purse? Where are they? They are on Aruba looking for a very lovely blonde, on her way to the American Dream, White girl.
To answer the question, are news broadcasters the cause for discrimination in this country? No. Do they feed the starving bigots in this country? Yes. They are to bigotry and prejudice as Saudi Arabia is to the rocketing gas prices in this country. They are the kindling wood to a forest fire of discrimination.
