Aug. 7, 2005 Latoyia Figueroa, what a beautiful name. Latoyia, a first name that is as common as Mary or Linda in the African American community. Figueroa, a surname that is as common as Smith or Roberts in the Hispanic community. Latoyia Figueroa, a name that is symbolic of the ethnic diversity of America. Latoyia Figueroa, a name that is as honorable and worthy as Jennifer Wilbanks, Natalee Holloway, Lacie Peterson or Elizabeth Smart. Latoyia Figueroa, 24, is a gorgeous mixed-race Philadelphian who was last seen on July 18th walking from a friends' house after going to a doctor's appointment with her boyfriend, the father of her unborn child Latoyia Figueroa is the "Rodney Dangerfield" of missing young women. She doesn't get any respect, she gets only a fraction of the media attention that is lavished on Natalee Holloway. Latoyia Figueroa's disappearance is not receiving much attention from Geraldo Rivera, Sean Hannity, Great Van Susteren and Peter Jennings, but thank goodness that in the age of the Internet, bloggers and online columnists can pick up the slack. I will continue to put the spotlight on the disappearance of this beautiful young lady, until her case is solved. I'm hoping that blond-haired Natalee and dark-skinned Latoyia will both be found. I'm praying that one day, the media will be colorblind in their coverage of missing persons. ------------ About the author: Robert Paul Reyes is a columnist for the Lynchburg Ledger.
