Apr. 30, 2005 It’s amazing how easy life seems when you’re growing up, especially if you’ve been fortunate enough to make that observation. You know, things get paid seemingly automatically and then there are some among us who have to take frightening notice for having been in a less priveleged set of circumstances. Probably leaving them to wonder, is life supposed to be this difficult? Like maybe, if you suffered unforgettable setbacks such as having to do without electricity because that bill was not paid. Then for the priveleged, for whom things ran smoothly something like that was a rare occurrence, such as being deprived of the use of electric power due to a natural disaster. Or maybe you didn’t have cable television as you quickly realised that too is a luxury, but the fortunate ones, who always had it may see it as something they assume everyone has. And maybe your parents took you shopping regularly for designer merchandise because they were able to, as opposed to someone else who wore clothes purchased at thrift stores and such. Then you grow older and soon come to the harsh reality that you will have to someday be on your own and it is at this time you also observe that it might not be an easy task, especially if you have not had all the luxury the fortunates have had. For now you have to seek a job/career that enables you to have shelter, food, clothing, a vehicle and those are just the basics to begin with. The luxurious things can come later. Then as you proceed with life, you notice that in order to maintain that job, you also have to keep an eye on your health. For as you have probably observed, a severe illness can indeed lead you to a life altering experience, unless of course you are immensely wealthy. For as you all know, if you don’t work, you don’t get paid, especially if your sick leave time expires while you are still on the road to recovery. And while this is happening, the bills keep pouring in, the dreaded medical bills along with the ones you had before you became ill. And if you don’t have people or organisations that can lend you a helping financial hand, for sometimes it’s difficult to get help if you are single with no kids, you might become a little scared at the mere thought of losing all the things you have worked so hard to keep. Things like your car, apartment/house, you get the idea. So be thankful that you have your health and try to enjoy life a little, for ambition may not always come in the form of pursuing your passion of seeing your name up in lights. But it could also come in the form of being able to pay that electric bill or mortgage payment on your own. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
