Progressives And Progress

By Brooks A. Mick, M.D.
Apr. 27, 2005

To paraphrase Samuel F. Clemens, also known as Mark Twain, "Progressive is to real progress as lightning bug is to real lightning."

That is, there's no relationship.

Progressives aren't for progress, as all their favorite ideas and schemes have resulted in poverty and death and genocide where they have been tried.

Countries which have tried "progressive" ideas such as communism, socialism, anti-capitalism, and collectivism end up impoverishing their people, oppressing their people, murdering their people, and must fence in their people to keep them from escaping. See Vietnam, Cambodia, China, and the former Soviet Union.

If "progressive" ideas really mean progress, why do they cause people to flee?

Soi-disant "progressives" began, measured in politicopsychological maturity levels, or PsyQ as I call it, as 19-yr-old college sophomores, bright and sincerely convinced that their ideas were right and that centuries of human experience counted for nothing. Then, as failure after failure occurred wherever their ideas were tried, they refused to face reality and became rebellious 13-yr-old teenagers, especially after 1994 when they lost control of the House. Then, with the Al Gore political tantrum of 2000 in Florida, their PsyQ dropped to the 4-yr-old brat level.

With loss of the Senate and the Presidency and faced with the loss of their last bastion of control, the judiciary, they have deteriorated to the 2-yr-old level.

All they can do when faced with reality is scream "NO!"

Fix Social Security? "NO!"

Fix the tax code? "NO!"

Make the average worker wealthy at retirement? "NO"

Increase personal freedom and responsibility? "NO!"

Reduce collectivism and increase individualism? "NO!"

Stop discrimination? "NO!"

Free another country's people from oppression? De opresso liber?" "HELL NO!" No matter how many times the "progressives" are slapped upside the head with reality, there is no sign that they are snapping out of their spiralling decline into the psychopolitical basement. It is much like watching a loved one's brain fail due to Alzheimer's disease, or watching a relative drink himself to death.

It appears that there is nothing we can do for them. They are on political life support. Perhaps it's time to pull the plug.
