Go Ye Forth [Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship]

By Brianna McCarthy
Apr. 25, 2005

“For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” - Isaiah 55:12 (KJV)

I wanted to share with someone how beautiful God is and how worthy He is of praise. My purpose has been renewed; I am clear now as to why it’s so important to draw others close to God so that they too can have that unique and joyous experience of his grace and salvation.

Yesterday, under the Humanities undercroft at 4 pm, the Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship held its weekly meeting. I arrived in time for a glorious and powerful praise and worship session. A group of about 40-50 students sang and worshiped proudly, joyously, some faces turned heavenward smiling, eyes closed, others waving ecstatically, there was dancing and clapping. It’s amazing that just when you think you “can’t” sing the Holy Spirit takes over and you are obliged to drop the T and give God the glory! I’ve never sang like that before and I am truly excited about doing it again. Young worship leaders called for God’s protection in these times, for conviction in Christ in the hearts of those who stray, for forgiveness, repentance and for fearless, shame free evangelization; “So that we would not feel afraid to bring the gospel to unbelievers, for Lord you did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind!” At this there was a rousing Amen!, applause and thanksgiving. On this day many experienced the awesome power of Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Shalom, Jehovah Rapha and Jehovah Nissi. The self- consciousness of the unsure, immature Christian was broken, the yoke of shame was destroyed, the internal struggle between serving God and the love of worldly things was replaced by peace and Victory belonged to Christ Jesus! In the centre of the busiest part of campus we praised the Great I AM, amidst the stares and muted laughter of our non-Christian peers we worshipped fearlessly.

Today, I challenge those of you who follow Christ, to do so without fear, to do so in a way which shows the all encapsulating love of God. Seek to include others, rather than exclude. Seek to draw others to Christ by your actions. Pray to God for guidance, wisdom and compassion and remember: “Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus…” - 2 Timothy 1:9 (KJV)
