Apr. 24, 2005 Life around the aquarium can be a big responsibility. And I am not talking about the aquariums at the zoo and the workers at that place. I just mean the age old hobby of keeping fish. Growing up we had many fish and a few tanks, one of them gigantic. These tanks were wonderful worlds of fish. They also had exotic looking plants and multi-colored gravel. There were little caves and taverns. My favorite was the skeleton that sat up from his watery grave every now and then. The water has to be changed and the filter(s) must be kept in proper working order. One has to watch for disease amoung the fish, and even pregnancies. Tanks can become dirty danger zones and quite smelly if not tended to. We had a small tank for awhile during my adult life. But whenever my wife would feed the fish or clean the tank a little fish would jump out or some kind of trouble would occur. Little signs from the universe that it was not the right time to keep fish were showing all around. But as they say, hope springs eternal and I shall have fish again one day. As many Neon Tetras as I please, and some big fat Algae Eaters that just hang around and seem to live forever. There will be much maintenance to be done, but it will be worth it. All that watery magic...colorful lights shining at fish who swim in the manufactured sea of delight. And I will find one of those underwater skeletons that rise from the grave periodically. For good measure and good luck. So to coin a phrase...Happy Aquariuming!!!!.... ------------ About the author: Brian Michael Barbeito lives in Aurora, Ontario, Canada.
