Apr. 21, 2005 Two years ago the space shuttle, Columbia, exploded upon reentering the atmoshpere. The space program today pushed back the launch of the Discovery one more week due to making sure the shuttle will be perfectly safe. They are protecting the shuttle crew. They are protecting millions of dollars of equipment. The shuttle crew knows the risks of their job. The space program should stop pushing back the launch date because if a person really wants to be perfectly safe, then don't take that job. Yes, the loss of the crew of the Columbia was a sad day. But it crippled a thriving space program for two years. It stopped the United States from continuing to get supplies to the space station. It stopped needed experiments that are done only on the space shuttle. It stopped. Where did the years of racing to get to the moon go? When did all human life become sacred? Why do we stop, when the people who go into that job know the risks? Seeing a space shuttle launch is an exciting expereince I someday hope to watch. The government in the past has done a good job encouraging space exploration. Don't stop because somebody died. I don't think the astronauts that died that day would want the work to end. One more suggestion, we need another moon shot, please some one in NASA campaign for that! ------------ About the author: Being a full time writer is the hardest job that I have tried.
