Apr. 5, 2005 Are you an avid Lord of the Rings reader or just a movie watcher and just wondered how to make that wonderful looking Lumbas bread. Well look no further. A friend of mine while searching the web to find a Lord of the Rings chat site when she stumbled on a wonderous sight, she found the recipe for Lumbas bread the sacred food of the elves. So I bring it to you. I hope you enjoy this wonderful dish and trust me its true that only a little fills the stomach. Lembas Bread Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups of flour 1 Tablespoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 8 Tablespoons cold butter (1 stick) 1/3 cup sugarIngredients: 2 1/2 cups of flour 1 Tablespoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 8 Tablespoons cold butter (1 stick) 1/3 cup sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 2/3 cup milk (I found that using using 2/3 cup of heavy cream is better) 1/2 teaspoon vanilla honey or maple syrup for dipping Preheat over to 425 degrees. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Add butter and mix with a fork or pastry cutter until mixture looks like fine granules. Add sugar and cinnamon and mix. Add milk and vanilla and stir with a fork until dough forms. (you can add a little bit more milk than the recipe calls forif it gets too hard to stir.) Roll into balls and place on cookie sheet, mashing them out until they are about 1/2 inch thick and 3 inches across. Makes about 12 - 14. Bake for about 12 minutes or until insides aren't gooey. (I would suggest making them small, for if they are too big, they will fall apart very easily.) This is a great recipe if you do everything right, and it really does fill you up fast. Here is a veriation that I myself found while playing around on the internet I would give the site credit if I had the name but all I have is the recipe. 2 1/2 cups of flour 1 Tablespoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 8 Tablespoons cold butter 1/3 cup sugar 2/3 cup milk 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract Preheat over to 425 degrees.Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Chop butter into mixture with a pastry cutter or knead in with your fingers until you get a crumbly mixture. Add sugar and mix. Add milk and lemon extract and stir with a fork until dough forms. Roll the dough out about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out 3 inch squares and transfer to a cookie sheet. Criss-cross each square from corner to corner with a knife. Bake for about 12 minutes or until set and lightly golden. Makes 10 to 12. So next time you decide to have a Lord of the Rings marathon, or just decide to try something new, try this recipe for a treat that has no comparision. ------------ Email Sara Johnston: sikil_silme@yahoo.com Tell a friend about this site! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
