June 28, 2011 This fall Dish Network presents a new take on celebrity icon coverage with it's new show Icon News hosted by ADHDtv former host Lew Marklin in its prime time block. The show offers a new take on an old story; Talking head talks with celebs about this and that. I like the positive spin on the interviews and the fact that the show reaches out to celebs that we don't hear from and the medium of Skype to studio from wherever the stars are at. It takes the stars out of their makeup and into their day to day environment. It is a clever way to compete with bigger budget shows but the jury is still out whether Marklin can pull it off. While ADHDtv was a querky show with an edge, Icon News is much more mainstream and less flashy. That may or may not be it's greatest selling feature. Perhaps less is more. Dish appears to be a perfect venue for the show and it is rumored that the show is in talks with cable giants Fox and Bravo, which only time will tell if the show has that kind of juice and staying power. For the sake of independent production and a positive message, I wish the show the best and in September we will revisit this review for a more in depth review, after getting some viewer feedback. In the meantime, Marklin's agent, Melissa McComas has assured us an exclusive interview that we may take advantage of. Some celebs to look forward to, as we have been told are Dominic Rains, Christina DeRose, Mycole Metcalf, Jenae Alt, Lil J, John Schneider, Georgia Van Cuylenburg, George Wallace, Cassandra Hepburn, Ruth McCartney, Susan Anton, Eric Roberts, Laci Kay and many others.
