Jan. 25, 2011 If I did have tears in my ears, (which I don’t at the moment) they wouldn’t be puddled there on account of misery and/or melancholy. Nor would they have anything to do with the North Carolina indie rock band called Schooner who recorded a song titled “Tears in Your Ears.” Not at all. As a matter of fact, it is joy that’s brought on any recent tears for me. It has to do with a book I read last week. I’ll tell you about the book a little later. My hypothetically soggy ears are oddly connected with a wide range of scientific material, such as, quantum fields, entropy as destructive disorder, heat death of the universe, temperature is not heat but can create heat and, the best bit of all, the three Laws (four, if you count the Zero+th Law) of Thermodynamics. In particular for myself, I have found untapped and heretofore unrecognized curiosity in Thermodynamics’ Second Law, which has three baby laws of its own. These derivative laws deal with systems. More important to me is the unwavering faith science has placed in the Laws of Thermodynamics. I imagine it’s difficult to argue against the countless calculations that have shown every single time that when heat flows from a hot spot to a cold spot, entropy-disorder-chaos increases. And entropy always intensifies inside a closed system. I’ll take the scientists’ word for all of this. Now to the book I read a week ago. We have to start with my appreciation for an online site that calls itself Disinformation. Here’s the top of their “about us” page: The Disinformation Company is a dynamic, independent media company based in New York City. We are active in book publishing, film production and home video distribution, with well over 100 books and films in our catalog. We are known for working with filmmakers and authors to promote important political, social or cultural issues that are ignored by the mainstream media. Disinfo.com, our web portal, aggregates tens of thousands of the most shocking, unusual and quirkiest news articles, podcast episodes, and videos on the web, most of which are submitted by the site’s visitors. The site also includes original free content, including the Disinformation Podcasts as well as a deep archive of articles and editorials written in the early days of the site. Whether it’s text, audio or video, if it’s offbeat or unconventional, you’ll probably find it here. I’ve been happily reading Disinformation’s offerings for a goodly amount of time now. The contributions come from everywhere and have room for both “progressives” and “conservatives” as well as everybody and his uncle in between. Article titles range from “War as Righteous Rape and Purification” to “Earth May Get Second Sun in 2012,” and “Atheists Get Angry at God.” A quote from the second article mentioned goes like this: “The infamous red super-giant star in Orion’s nebula — Betelgeuse — is predicted to go gangbusters and the impending super-nova may reach Earth before 2012, and when it does, all of our wildest Star Wars dreams will come true.” Personally, I have got to see this wondrous phenomenon, two suns in our sky. And I haven’t heard anything about it from any other source. Thank you, Disinformation. You see, there is actually no “dis” in Disinformation. The editors are careful that the readers aren’t presented with a mountain of gobbledygook. Pure bulls**t is not allowed. So, when a fascinating title came up, I jumped at it. The title was: “God May Not Be the Theoretical Higgs Boson: SHE May Be the Already-Discovered Weak Force.” It had been posted by its author, Dickey Eason. The Higgs boson is an unidentified particle being tracked down by physicists who go after quantum-related, basically inaccessible material, even as we speak. If it’s there, those guys will find it. Weak Force has something to do with those pesky little bosons. WF also deals with quarks. It is essential to the functioning of the entire Universe’s stars, including our own sun. Mr. Eason seemed to have an interesting particle of knowledge when he denominated the Weak Force as a She. That’s where he caught my entire attention. Oh, how different the world would be if there was a female entity at the cockpit controls. In the article, Mr. Eason questioned how humanity could live among the conflicts and outright wars that ravage nearly every nation on earth and not see the same happening in the rest of the cosmos. His belief is that if we start a process of recognition that the universe exists with natural conflicts, we might start a process to lead us to less human strife on Earth. There is a dynamic operating the universe, he says, where forces vie against each other. These subjects are addressed in his book, the one I read last week. His thesis points out that human behavior mirrors the behavior of molecules. He tackles humanity and its behavior as if we were not only made of molecules but we ARE molecules, human molecules. I’m not going into molecular behavior as Eason sees it in human beings (or in any other manner) except to say he sees the nucleus of the molecule as male and the electrons that spin around the nucleus as female. What Mr. Eason is dealing with and points out in his amazing book, “The Impacts Dynamic; Working Against Dispersal in Human Society and Across the Universe” is thermodynamics, the second law in particular. In his words, “The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics says that localized or concentrated energy will spontaneously disperse if not hindered from doing so. Entropy is the measure of this dispersal.” He then goes on for many interesting chapters describing what humanity was before history smacked us with agriculture. That was about 10,000 years ago (give or take a couple of thousand) and it caused all sorts of disasters. Becoming tied to the land, the seasons, crops and animals caused a breakdown in the natural bonding we’d had as extended families for hundreds of thousands of hunter-gatherer lives. That bond is still dissolving, no matter how passionately some of us strive to keep it in tact. This dissolution has been extremely severe for us, as Mr. Eason points out. It has divided us in a vile manner, a loathsome way that will kill us off if we don’t find a way to heal the noxious wounds disfiguring our souls. Mr. Eason seems to think such a healing is, indeed, possible. He calls the people who yearn for the old bonds and the arts of our ancestors “Impacts.” This is because these individuals have the dynamic of energy to innovate, maintain, improve and change the structure that causes our pain. The energy is mostly female, says Mr. Eason. He advises the reader to think of the Herculean strength the human mother possesses and you will have a solid notion of what he means. These prospective saviors of humanity, both men and women, often live on the periphery of our societies. However, they tend to create nodes of Impacts. They show up in distinctly modern pursuits of society because the idea of innovation draws them. But they also put their souls into age-old professions like teaching and medicine. Some living examples of Impacts are Oprah Winfrey, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Tiger Woods (no matter what else he’s done, he has made an “impact” on many people through his charities). There are also Walt Disney, Ray Kroc, both dead now, and a multitude more Impacts that we will never hear a word about. Then there are the SNs. In Mr. Eason’s vernacular, SN stands for the structural-nucleus of an entity. Said entity can be a country, an industry, a school system, an organization, a church, a CEO, a politician or an ordinary citizen. Power and control are the supreme aspects, as well as desires, of the SN. Male energy predominates. Violence of some sort more often than not follows the male’s use or misuse of whatever power he has accumulated. In the case of the SN country or society headed by an SN leader, war is repeatedly in the picture. And examples of virulent SNs? They leave their “efforts” written large in our history books. Adolph Hitler. Benito Mussolini. Joseph Stalin. Pol Pot. Saddam Hussein. Kim Jong Il. George W. Bush. In general, Mr. Eason points out that the SN, structural-nucleus, has no notion of how “real” people think, what’s important to them and what their needs are. And they couldn’t care less. Yet, they need the Impacts because they, the SNs, can’t think their way out of a paper bag. They only want to accrete things to themselves - all the money and goods they can reach and grasp. So they are compelled to “capture” Impacts so that they can do the work the SNs are either too brainless or too lazy to do for themselves. Also, they need to have control over the Impacts. That’s what SNs do. Today’s world is an SNs world. There are those hybrids, part Impacts and part SN, who coast along in this hellish world and become very “successful.” (The quotes are Mr. Eason’s.) There are those, too, who have more Impacts energy than SN energy. They have a harsh time of it in this culture. Many of them retire to the periphery of today’s society. And the rest of us, those who try to escape being eaten alive in this terrorizing SN jungle, are bereft of their caring and their energies.
May I recommend Mr. Eason’s book? If you feel that there ought to be a better way to live, a way that doesn’t require us to juggle two inordinately expensive wars, that doesn’t see our children and grandchildren learn less and less about the world and life, you’ll find hope in his book. I did. The book’s title once again? The Impacts Dynamic: Working Against Dispersal in Human Society and across the Universe. Don’t allow the puffed-up title to frighten you off. It’s well worth the read. And I believe it’s available at Amazon. But, what isn’t?
Writing was always my first choice in life. I began writing at the age of 8, small books about pioneers heading west. Little did I know then that I would be living in the most "western" of all the states, Texas. No one told the Texans that they are simply Southerners who, like Bugs Bunny, took a wrong turn at Albuquerque and wound up here.
I am sneaking up on 70 years of age and now own a vast store of useless knowledge. Happy to share any or all of it with you all.
