Sept. 1, 2010 Now that President Obama has been in office for some nineteen months, many people are wondering whether his administration could be any worse than it is and, by extension, whether our country could be any deeper into the throes of dissolution and despair. The answer is an unqualified “Yes!” I’ll explain, but first, let’s review. Very early in his tenure as President, Obama began kow-towing to Muslim nations, even going so far as to embarrass America by bowing to foreign dignitaries. Along with this, he several times denied that America was in any way any more exceptional than any other country. As I recall, he said America was no more exceptional than Greece (which, this short time later, is exceptional only for going broke.) At around this same time, he deliberately insulted Great Britian – our oldest and staunchest ally – and did it not once, but twice: first in returning the bust of Winston Churchill that had graced the Oval Office for many years and then – playing out the audacity of ego – by presenting the queen with an Ipod containing Obama’s Greatest Hits. (Perhaps he felt she might have missed them, being busy with ceremonial duties and such.) Oh, yeah. He presented the Prime Minister of England a boxed set of old movies – the kind you can pick up at WalMart for about fifteen dollars – and which, being coded for American DVD players, will not play on the British DVD players. That’s three insults to Great Britian and easily as many more to Israel as Obama keeps nudging that tiny country to give the Palestinians whatever they want. Of course, there was the takeover of General Motors and Chrysler. Well, not so much a takeover as making of them a gift to the United Auto Workers. Then the Recovery Act that did little more than create more government jobs – and consequently more paperwork for the rest of us. And who can forget the shady deals that resulted in Congress finally passing something called Obamacare? (Now, it should be noted that no one in government knows exactly what Obamacare is – because no one bothered to read the massive bill [which was written by Obama cronies outside government] but what they do know is that it puts into play billions of more dollars of government spending, some of which is bound to trickle down to their own wallets.) The litany of wrong and thoughtless moves and decisions by the Obama administration is far too long to recount here. Those who get their news from sources other than the mainstream media already know them; those who rely on NBC, CBS and ABC will probably never know. But the question asked at the outset was “Could things be any worse?” Yes, if Obama had simply had more time in which to work, more time in which to appoint people with highly questionable backgrounds and agendas to cabinet positions and positions of “Czar”, more time to turn his insults to allies other than England and Israel. And he almost had more time. Remember the hue and cry immediately following the election in 2008? Remember all the pundits and commentators wishing Obama could be inaugrated and take office no later than November 10th because our country so needed his healing powers at the helm?
Thank God our Constitution prevented such a travesty. Had it not, we’d all be groaning under 21 months of the Obama nation instead of only nineteen.
