Obama-Clinton: Well, Slap My Face, O Israel!

By Thomas Keyes
May 6, 2010

According to one-time Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Paul Craig Roberts, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert gloated in January, 2009 over the fact that he had prevented Condoleezza Rice, then Secretary of State, from declaiming before the UN Security Council a ceasefire resolution that she herself had helped draft. Olmert did this by telephoning George W. Bush with instructions to quash the resolution. Bush was in Philadelphia, delivering a lecture, but Olmert interrupted the lecture and had Bush come to the phone immediately.

Olmert was quoted as saying,”Early Friday morning, the Secretary of State was considering bringing the ceasefire resolution to a UNSC vote and we didn’t want her to vote for it. I said, ‘Get President Bush on the phone.’ They tried and told me that he was in the middle of a lecture in Philadelphia . I said, ‘I’m not interested. I need to speak to him now.’ He got down from the podium, went out and took the phone call.” The resolution died.

So Olmert killed two arrogant little birds, Rice and Bush, with one stone.

Now, Olmert’s successor, Binyamin Netanyahu, is doing it all over again. For one thing, he bolted from the nuclear arms discussion to which Barack Obama had invited him, as if an invitation from a US President is something that an Israeli Prime Minister can spurn with impunity. Obama confirmed that Netanyahu enjoys such a spurning-privilege, saying that his refusal to attend the meeting would not affect US aid to Israel. Well, slap my face!

Then, of course, there has been contention over construction in East Jerusalem. Obama lamely requested an end to construction altogether, which Netanyahu refused, so Obama watered down his request, asking for a mere moratorium (temporary freeze) instead, but Netanyahu said there would be no moratorium either. After that, Time magazine, The New York Times and the Netanyahu’s opposition party in Israel pretended that, though there was no moratorium, there was an informal temporary freeze. Apparently, they did this to save face for Obama and embarrass Netanyahu. But it didn’t work, because soon afterwards the mayor of Jerusalem said there was no freeze whatsoever, formal or informal. Moreover, if al-Jazeera is to be believed, Israel is planning to build 200,000 units in East Jerusalem.

Well, slap my face again!

These slaps did not keep Hillary Clinton from declaring US commitment to Israel ’s security “unshakable.”

Zion and Jewry in general know that they may humiliate America ’s “leaders” as often as they like, and there will be absolutely no repercussions.

What motivates Hillary is money more than any genuine concern for Israel ’s security. In 2007, the Jew-run New York Sun, quoted Clinton campaign consultant Hank Scheinkopf, apparently Jewish, as saying, " New York is the ATM for American politicians. Large amounts of money come from the Jewish community," he said. "If you're running for president and you want dollars from that group, you need to show that you're interested in the issue that matters most to them."

The Sun followed this up by saying that Mrs. Clinton, who has opted out of the public campaign financing system, has tapped into the circuit of influential Jewish donors for years and has strong support in the community. A spokesman for AIPAC, Joshua Block, said yesterday that the senator and former first lady has "an extremely consistent and strong record of support on issues that are important to the pro-Israel community."

The logic seems to be, “O Israel, give me a million to get me into office, and I’ll give you billions out of the US Treasury when I get there. And please feel free to slap my face.”
