The Flailing Lights

By Brian Michael Barbeito
May 22, 2010

Down and around they went all the greens and reds and spectre-like oranges and the thick background of palms and sheets of rain were there. Up by the top of the buildings, where the moon and moons looked down on, more of the lights swung and skirted and rollicked, this time in pinks and purples and then they would become dimmer for some time but soon brighten again. Also and always by the roads were yellow lights that were hollow on the inside, and these moved as the whole electric city moved, and sometimes moved so incredibly fast that they looked still. The last place seen but not the last place it happened was by the piers, where the wind or the rains could have moved the lights but instead something internal moved the lights, internal and alert, and some thought they heard the lights buzzing while others swore that the lights themselves sang a music as they motioned- made a song as they went by the otherwise blank and blackened skies.
