Accidental Crows

Nature was calm and able to absorb anything but had a grand indifference of sorts. The long and wide frozen fields, the stretches of clouds along the horizon, and crows cawing, seeming to come just when you forgot about them to begin again their noise. The crows knew something it seemed, because their speech was definite and pronounced, intentful. Crows. There was a petrol station, and west of it, at the next major intersection, the traffic slowed to flashing lights and police cars. There had been an accident, but while moving through there, slowly going across someone’s misfortune, it was difficult for the other vehicles to tell what had happened. A fire truck and ambulance were there, and the lady officer along with a male officer watched and waited. Men were cutting a door and a part of a black car, and another, brown, stood damaged nearby, not parked but stopped. It was a time of the morning when the sun was not to come out completely because though on a steady rise, the sky was thick, too thick with something, and how the crows manoeuvred so well was perhaps by some secret design of their own or someone else’s.
