June 3, 2010 Last weekend was the fifth anniversary of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Joran van der Sloot celebrated it by allegedly stabbing and beating yet another young woman. I am not surprised. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/06/03/earlyshow/main6544006.shtml Interpol is on the hunt for the now missing Joran who is the ONLY suspect in the above murder and it is only a matter of time before they catch him. He will not like the hospitality that the prisons in Peru have to offer and I can't wait to see him enter the gates of one of them. It is a long time in coming. I have one question that needs to be answered and that is WHO is funding Joran and his misadventures? His daddy warbucks is dead and he is persona non grata in most places controlled by his old buddies so who is the sugar daddy or momma paying for Joran's trips to various countries? I doubt that his poker playing prowess is enough to fund all of his travels. Perhaps Joran has recruited enough Thai prostitutes to pay for his expenses but that seems unlikely since he is so obviously unconvincing. Could there be a coalition of folks on that lovely bit of corruption called Aruba? Could Joran have a fan club of daddy's old friends who are funding him along with his oblivious mother? That is something I would love to know. I listened to Julia Renfro defend Aruba to within an inch of her life on "Issues", Jane Velez-Mitchell's television show and her comments were enough to turn one's stomach. Of course, anyone who knows the truth about the politics on Aruba knows that Renfro is the biggest cheerleader on that island and would do anything and say anything to protect her financial interests (which are many). Until Joran is caught and hopefully, finally brought to justice we will have to wait to see if this will have any impact on the Holloway case. Somehow, I doubt that Aruba will do anything about seeking and finding the truth of what really happened to Natalee since confessions mean nothing to those who run things and to those who prosecute criminals. Usually two things are ideal in any criminal case...an eye witness or a confession. Not so on Aruba. Three confessions from Joran have no importance to the authorities and I doubt that an eye witness would make any difference either. It appears that turning a blind eye to justice is the specialty on that tourist trap. Putting Joran the Monster aside for the moment, it is time to pay tribute to Natalee Holloway and to let her parents know that many of us remember her. We still hope for some kind of closure in her disappearance and we still mourn her loss. There is no way that we can feel the loss that her parents will feel for the rest of their lives but we can let them know that many, many people still care. Five years ago we lost a precious, young life for no reason at all and now she is a memory that moves us and reminds us that life is short and should never be taken for granted.
Rest in peace Natalee with the knowledge that your murderer will soon be brought to justice. As for the rest of us; we will never forget you nor will we stop searching for answers. The day that Joran is brought to justice will be an international day of celebration in your memory.
